Fourteen Clubs Out of Business

OsirisOsiris Members Posts: 13
I was at Modern Golf in Richmond, BC over the weekend, and the best irons we came up with were Fourteen FH900's.

Today I got an email from Modern that says Fourteen have closed their North American office, and have gone out of business!

Looks like I am starting over - maybe Epon to replace my Miura CB 501's.

Does anyone know if Miura still offers refurbishment of irons, ie., strip chrome, fix minor dings, blast face to roughen, put grooves back to original, reset loft and lie if needed, and than apply new chrome plating?

I haven't posted much around here as my attention has been elsewhere, and in particular in the Cameron world - but thanks in advance for any info you may have!

Wait. Are you sure? Fourteen’s parent company is Globeride, which also owns Daiwa (fishing), OnOff, and Roddio. And also Prince (tennis).

That really stinks if they have gone out of business. I love their irons and wedges. I did see that Wedge Wizard had left Fourteen Golf

Closing up a regional office is not necessarily the same as going out of business. It may still be possible to get the product you might just have to leverage a different distribution channel. And getting fit would obviously become more difficult.

    Ok, so an update.

I spoke with the distributor in California listed on the Fourteen website. It seems the distributor for North America has changed.

I will follow up with Modern and get to the bottom of this!

Should change the topic heading as it is a bit misleading - to something more reflective of the real situation - its like spreading FUD on crypto!

Can I change the topic heading myself, or does that need a Mod?

In any event, I spoke with a distributor in California I've dealt with for other golf equipment who also has access to Fourteen. They told me they were unable to get me a price much less delivery for Fourteen equipment. When they contacted Fourteen, they were told the distribution is being pulled back to Japan. And, they could not get a straight answer on price or availability. So, this may not be going out of business, but it does look like getting a custom set of irons from a fitter or retailer is impossible at the moment.

I suppose this may settle out over time. Separately, in Canada Honma has made an exclusive deal with Golftown. You can only buy packaged Honma sets through Golftown - no customization of shafts & grips for instance, just off the rack. It may be that Golftown is willing to dis-assemble clubs and fit them with shafts you prefer, but I'd have to talk with them to find out. I doubt it because Golftown in Richmond, BC is Honma's top retailer by volume in North America without any customization. I bring this up because what Fourteen is doing has the same look to it.

I can buy a set of irons off Amazon.ca from a reseller in Japan, but they will come with 'stiff' shafts of unknown make, model, and frequency...

We had a rep from Fourteen out here on Golfwrx but I looked and he hasn’t been active since May. Interestingly it also looks like the newest Fourteen wedge never launched in the U.S. either.

I heard Fourteen is having a hard time in Japan, what a shame if they really do fold. the FH 900 is one of my favorite iron sets out there today.

I noticed Fourteen Golf posts a lot from North Carolina on their instagram page and not California.

This would be a shame as I personally walked into their Orange County office a few months back and spoke with the Wedge Wizard at length. Great guy, great company, great wedges.

Great irons and wedges. Not appealing woods.

Stupid paper manual on every clubs.

    No marketing whatsoever in N.A.

Answer to the problem is very simple.
