I'm going to be out of town early next week, so I figured I'd get this out now. As noted, I'm not sure if this is a 3 day or 4 day event. The long range forecast for next weekend calls for possible showers and storms over 4 days. This could be a wet one.

I'm going to go with Lexi in this one. She basically dominated last year. Lydia and Minjee finished 2nd and 3rd, and should contend again, given their recent solid play.

Official website for the event says 72 holes

I remember liking this course, very scorable but can also bite you badly if out of position. The quirkiness of the layout doesn't take away from the challenge (if memory serves lol).

I'm gonna go with Minjee to win, she seems to be on good form right now and looks poised for her 2nd victory this season

It's a Pete Dye design, so it does have its challenges. I played it in 2015, and really enjoyed it. If one is a racing fan, the added bonus of playing next to, and in, the Speedway is very nice.

My only complaint is that they reorder the holes so that the round ends inside the Speedway at the 10th, which is a yawner of a finishing hole. The real 18th is a tough finishing hole, and the par 3 17th, like most Dye designs, is a challenge as well. If they're going to finish the tournament inside the track, they should finish at the tricky par 4 8th, as it has water the full length of the hole, and plays similar to the 18th at TPC Sawgrass.

going off my bad memory again, but if I remember correctly they make 18 a reachable par 4 on the weekend (well for the longer hitters). I'm am actually one who enjoys the drivable par 4's but doing it the last hole does come off a bit gimmicky to me. Although I do like the par 3 15th it's like a turtle shell lots of big scores there and the 16th can be scary off the tee. but 17th and 18th aren't very dangerous from my recollection.
  • Argonne69Argonne69 Members Posts: 20,400 ✭✭
Yeah, the 15th is a tough par 3. From the tee one can't really see the sizeable dropoff from the green's surface. It's a bit of an optical illusion. If one is down in the bowl, it's no easy pitch to get the ball up without the risk of it coming back down again.

Be nice if Lexi repeats, but I won`t be holding my breath. Shan Shan is due, and played well at the British. I`m looking for Jin Young to bounce back after getting cut at the British. I gotta go with Brooke, or So Yeon.
  • Argonne69Argonne69 Members Posts: 20,400 ✭✭
Jin Young is playing a KLPGA event this week. After a trip to the UK, and Korea, she's going to be a little jet lagged I bet. Inbee is also playing in the event.

I'm confused lol, in the event description it's listed as a 54 hole event and last season it was a 54 hole event but TV times show 4 days of coverage. Last season if memory serves me this tourney was the week before the Evian so that makes sense why it was only 3 days. SO which is it a 54 hole event or a 72 hole event, this season as next week event in Canada is only a quick plane ride away

Hoping the weather holds out, Arg! I am headed to Indy to take a putting lesson with Bruce Rearick, Thursday, then go watch the LPGA event on Friday. The racetrack backdrop gives this event a unique vibe, very cool!

I watched Lexi warm up last year and it was SO IMPRESSIVE, she just striped it with total control.

It's a 72 hole event. I checked on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway site.

I have a good feeling about Carlota Ciganda this week--maybe the race car aspect of it will inspire her.

I had said that for the last few weeks, maybe it`s your week. Good luck on the pick!

Will be good to see Lexi back. Not picking her to defend, though.

The scores seem exceptionally low this morning but last year winning score was -19 for 3 days so I guess it's in line with last year but only 15 of 72 players on the course right now are over par, so you better go low to make the cut lol

Interesting leaderboard with several previous winners, but the majority looking for their first win on tour. Jin Young is certainly looking for her 2nd win of the season. Her first win must feel like ages ago. Lydia sure seems to have put 2017 behind her. 'Not sure if she'll rise again to #1 given the competition, but she seems to be in the mix frequently.

Ariya 302 yard drive, did she use driver?

Ariya had driver in the bag on Thursday.

I would love to see Ariya and Sung Hyun square off for the title. They are the future of the game IMO. The next level of women's golf.

Stubbles said she should just pick a tournament to hit her driver and not worry about the score. I say with the lead that she has in every category, she could use several such "burner tournaments".

From their Instagram, the Jutanugarns made a trip to LA/San Diego during the off week. The great Tom Abbott mentioned that Moriya is now with Chris Mayson (who is San Diego based), after splitting up with Gary Gilchrist. I will be very surprised if Ariya doesn't follow.

Coincidence that she is putting her driver in play this week ? Or is she trying to conquer her driver demons with her presumed new coach ?

Ariya hooked the snot out of her 3 wood on 13, so it's not like her driver is the only club prone to going left. I think this is a good sign, and should expect to see the driver more often.

'Bummer that they didn't get the 2nd round completed. The players left on the course are going to have a long day tomorrow.

Whoa. Alison at -5 with six holes to play. Could she really be on her way to making two cuts in a row?

If Sung Hyun and Lizette are paired together, they will look like the number ten walking down the fairways.
