Anyone else putt better with a cheap putter?

Tko22Tko22 Members Posts: 45
I have 2 Cameron’s (NP 2.6 and a GoLo 5), a Ping Sigma Kushin, a Giannini, a newer Cleveland and a couple of Nike’s Method putters, and I putt best and consistent by far with a cheap “PowerBilt” TPS Triad mallet. The Tour SNSR grip cost more than the putter. That thing is more than face balanced + a degree or two! I recall buying it when a K-Mart closed up.

Dang it!

Any others putt better with an off brand, cheap putter?

I would compare its lie/loft to your other putters just for fun.

The best putting of my 20 years of golfing was with a $15 Wilson center shafted mallet I found at Walmart about 10 years ago. For some reason I gave it up and I haven’t putted we’ll since. I’m still on my quest to find the right putter.

    Edited for spelling.

The cost of the 14 clubs/shafts in my bag is well into the thousands, and I bought my putter brand new, at MSRP, for less than $90.

Yes, haven't found anything better than my original Ping Anser which I picked up for $20. Every now and again I'll play with the new putters at Golf Galaxy and the only one recently that has made me go "hmmmm" is the Tommy Armor Impact 3 which only costs $99 I believe.

I've tried The TA Impact 3 on real greens, and it's a great value in a face-balanced mallet. This putter also tied with a very expensive Evnroll in a "most wanted mallet" competition on another website.

Does $99 count as cheap? I presume it does. I used a Cleveland Classic 1 putter from 2009-2016 until I got the PING TR Anser 66. That Cleveland over that 8 year span felt better than any PING, Odyssey, Scotty or Taylormade putter that I rolled.

I collect old Spalding TPM's. None of them cost me more than $20.

They all feel beautiful to putt with. Every bit as good as the Scotty's, Machine, Lajosi and Ping putters I have.

Ok, I used to think who needs an expensive putter? I've been putting with what is basically a Wilson Augusta tear drop model for 40 years. Well this year I broke down and bought an Evnroll ER3. I hate to admit it, but I'm putting a lot better with the new technology. It really is more consistent and I'm making about 1-2 putts more per round (mostly in the 12-20 ft range) than I used to and the 3 putts are significantly down. The only caveat is that I struggle with the new putter getting the ball to the hole from over 25', but I'm also not running it by like I used to either.

Don't know if it qualifies as "cheap" but I putt better with my O-Works #2 than any of the other dozen or so putters I own, most of which are significantly more expensive. It kind of ticks me off in a way because it's easily the least **** putter I own. I mean, even my O-Works Black 2W is better looking, but the Versa paint scheme suits my eye so well and the overall simplicity of the design lends itself to the most natural and technically sounds putting stroke I can make.

I would say my best putting over the past 5 years have been with 2 Cleveland Classics I bought new for under $100, and an old Ping Anser reproduction from the 90s I bought used for $30. Of course I used to putt with an early 1960's Bullseye for many years, I got it free out of a lost club bin at a course I worked one summer. It was really old when I found it, they said it had been there for years, and I could just have it. I used it pretty much for the next 15 years and putted really well with it, then the internet happened and I had to have a Scotty Cameron, and then, you know........ Probably should pull the Bullseye out of the closet again.....

I putt with an old putter, but would never put with a cheap one. Big difference between old and cheap. A Big 5 Wilson with a crooked grip is cheap, an old Ping is not cheap, even if it cost next to nothing in today's market.

Yes. I bought a Golfology Octagon milled ZW1 at Goodwill for $3. It's quite beautiful and has weight in the shaft - very heavy.

Never putted better in my life.
