I'm a 6 and I'm proud!

So I'm 49yrs old with a 13 and 10yr old. While my 6 cap isn't perfect I'm kinda proud of it. Playing 1.5x a week sucks! Just tossing that out there for us wannabes! I'm actually trending to 4.7 but that's whatever. BB

That's pretty good for those of us who don't do this for a living or play big comps....and have very limited time

for practice and play. Playing to single digits while having a busy life...….realistically it would probably take a

lot more time just to get it down a couple more strokes.....so not a thing wrong with being content where you

are. I'm glad you're happy Ben as that's what really matters.

thanks, having fun is the key. Don't get me wrong I like playing well but I'm realistic about my game and try to set manageable expectations.

For the last few years, I usually bounce between a 4 and a 7 playing about once a week in season. Joining a club actually made me feel much better about my game when I noticed that nearly all of the guys with lower handicaps play a significant amount more golf than I than do.

Maintaining a single digit handicap on a limited amount of golf, especially if you didn't play as a junior, is not nearly as common as some people would have you think.

I play 3-4 times a week, no kids, only 44 years old, and I'm barely holding onto a single digit cap at 9.4 right now. So you should be proud of a 6 cap.

What I notice most with lack of practice is GIR. Simply not hitting enough greens from manageable distances. It's understandable from 180yrs but missing greens or leaving 25ft putts from 150yrds defintely hurting my scores. If my Sat league didn't dew sweep at the crack of dawn I would take the time to hit a few buckets of balls. No biggie is what it is but that's my one huckleberry.

good to read, congrats on dropping and may it continue

I've gone the other way with injuries this year and am up to a 6 ... and it is driving me crazy. Playing once a week vs 3 times a week makes a world of difference to my game

I've always been obsessed with breaking 80. I've broken 80 probably 10-15 times. Consistently shoot in the 80-83's. It's amazing how I feel after shooting a 79 versus shooting an 80. It's illogical - I could've played better and shot the 80 versus playing worse and getting a couple breaks and shooting a 79 but I still feel better about the 79. All because of the first digit in the score starts with a 7 instead of an 8.

It's been a detriment to my game this obsession with breaking 80, I think about it constantly. I've gotten better and have found focusing on par has helped a lot. Why am I focused on just breaking 80? It's the wrong goal and it negatively affects my game - I pick out holes where I can afford bogey's and still break 80, when I should be focused on putting for legitimate birdie attempts. Recently, I just went through every hole at my local course and realized I can realistically par every hole every I play if I play to my ability. What prevents me from doing it is the mental side - I let the previous shot (s) and/or hole (s) put doubt in my head, I start to think that my margin for error to break 80 is narrowing because of a bad hole. I start to worry about the 3 footer for par knowing I can't afford bogey before I even hit my birdie putt or even my tee shot. It's self destructing. I'm really working hard on my mental game and confidence. I'm ready to break par, not just 80. And I know I have the physical game to do it - my attitude and mental game is holding me back - and that feels like such a shame.

I totally understand this. This was me for a few years. Now that I break 80 on the regular its kind of funny because when I leave the course shooting 80, I feel just as content as when I shoot 79. I know that I played a good game. 80 is still a good score and you should be proud of how you're doing. The strong majority of golfers would cringe at hearing you complain about shooting 80 vs a 79 haha. Keep doing what youre doing, you'll get there.

A 105 player shooting 94 is more compelling to me.

I didn't get to single digits until after I retired. I helped raise 6 kids while working a full-time job and at times some part-time ones. Maybe I got to play 2-3 times a month for several years. I never could practice. I think you have every right to be proud of your game.

Having kids, especially young ones it tough on the golf game. Im a bit younger than you and play a bit less, so I am certainly happy to break 80.

My last few rounds have been in the upper 70's with a round at 1 over in there. It sucks because it just makes you want to play more, which just pisses off the wife lol.

I play about once every 2 weeks avg and have been slowly creeping back up (started the season at 5.2 and now am at 5.6). It’s kind of a bittersweet spot in the HCs because one day you can go out and fire a 2 over and the next day go out up an 84 without hesitation. You’re also too low to ever win a low net event, and (depending on how many low HCs are in your club) you might place in the low gross spot. I’ve found that as a 5/6, you’ll never be as good as people think you play yet better than you think you play.

Amen! Isn't that the truth. It just fries my eggs when I hit bad 100yr Approach shots or a occasional missed chip. It's like I know darn well with a little practice and playing time those shots do not happen as frequently. Or when you driver starts to groove on hole 9! It's all good, adore the kiddos it's no contest. God willing and a healthy liver I will live to fight another day!
