Masters in any given year, or the 150th Open at St Andrews?

What would rather win?

From my understanding most folk on here have the masters as the 'best' major, does the Open being placed in St Andrews change this? Particularly in 2021 when it will be the 150th running of the event.

What about those on the tour, will the Americans value it as highly?

I’d probably rather win the Open vs masters generally

I’m Scottish and honestly I would prefer the Masters, but if you’re offering I’ll take either one please!

    They're both beloved, iconic tournaments.

I'm sure each tournament will have its partisans, but I think its like choosing between being a great putter, or a great ball striker. Why not both?

And yeah, I'd love to miss the cut in either tournament, let alone win the thing.

The one thing I will say for the Open, is I prefer how much more accessible it is to those wishing to buy tickets. Although, the exclusivity I suppose is part of the Masters' cachet.

If you win the Masters, you get a free dinner every year. That's good enough for me.

I will take the Masters on any given year, but the real question was Masters vs 150th at St Andrews. I’d take St Andrews 150th mark on history. Any other variable means I’d take the Masters.
  • USCHawks31USCHawks31 Members Posts: 176 ✭✭
Personally, I don't feel like it adds anything just because it's the 150th time it's been played. I wouldn't put any more significance on the 150th compared to the 149th or the 151st.

With that being said, it's the Masters.

The Open because it is the 150th .

I’d take a membership at Augusta over winning the 150th Open at St Andrews.
  • FootWedge16FootWedge16 Members Posts: 267 ✭✭
And that’s without even winning the Masters. I’d just take the membership.

I'd take The Open ... its more open to qualifying and is a stronger field

It's especially nice that it's at The Old Course

I'll take The Open @ St. Andrews thank you.

As cool as winning The Masters would be I'm way too un-PC for that place. They'd photoshop me out of all the Champions Dinner pictures.

I’d bet the champion’s locker room at Augusta is about as “un-PC” as it gets.

The only thing that puts them in the same ball park in my opinion is that it’s a British open at St Andrews. British open at any other venue is not nearly as cool as the masters. That being said I would go with the masters all the way.
