QOTD: Your go to golf glove?

Recommended Posts

I bought some Wilson gloves on a whim (buy 1 get 1 and I was being cheap) and new or not I am about to pitch them due to the way they bunch around the grip and club. I have personally never experienced this before, but I have always used Footjoy WeatherSof gloves.

This led me to wonder, especially given the reviews on Not allowed because of spam with Mizuno gloves measuring as their best glove, what is your glove of choice?

Srixon Z Cabretta. Usually around $13 on Amazon, and the quality/feel is awesome. The Mizuno gloves are pretty good too, but are definitely thicker material

Been using the ping tour glove and really like it. But killed it during my last practice session in 95° heat. Got a cheap wilson in the mean time till I can find more of the pings.

I use Titleist Players gloves for my tournaments and important events, and MG Tour elites for my ordinary golf and practice. Very similar feel between the two, but the Titleist have a more consistent cut and better quality control. I have a bad habit of trying to get too much golf out of my gloves (a holdover from my days as a broke grad student), so I really like having a cheaper practice glove (that's still good) that I feel less guilty about replacing.

PXG 5 Star are the best gloves I have ever used. Great fit, and the softest leather imaginable. However, like with all PXG stuff, you have to pay way over the odds in order to buy something that something else will do just as well for a third of the cost.

Titleist Players, Callaway Tour Authentic are awesome gloves too.

I used to really like G/Fore gloves, but in recent years have found the quality of leather has declined. They also don’t seem to fit quite as well across the palm as they used to.

I’ve been doing a test on Cabretta gloves at the moment. Not quite 6 rounds in, one glove still to wear for the 6th time.

I have done another thread which I will update soon, but to cut to the chase, a very quick summary.

I had been a Footjoy Weathersof user, price based, pretty much all of my golf life.

I then tried a Cabretta that I got cheap, a Srixon. The beautiful feel led me to test the following, I may add in the hottest summer we’ve had in the UK, so plenty of sweat during the testing.

Ping Tour

TaylorMade Tour Preferred

Titleist Players

Footjoy CabrettaSof

Srixon Cabretta

Best overall: TaylorMade

2nd: Ping

3rd: Srixon

Best value: Srixon

Most comfortable: TaylorMade

Most durable: TBC

Least durable: Titleist - showing far more signs of wear than the others.

In a nutshell, these are all pretty close. The Srixon is an excellent choice for those on a budget. If you have cash to spend go for the TaylorMade or the Ping.

The test isn’t complete yet as I want to see how long each lasts comparatively, I think it’ll be a couple of months at the very least before I can do a full review.

I do think though that I’d be more than happy with the Srixon moving forward, it’s 95% as good as the TaylorMade at half to 2/3 of he price. Having said that if money was no object then I’d go for the TaylorMade or the Ping, little to choose between them in comfort and performance.

The Taylormade has performed the best for me as well which surprised me. I played titleist or footjoy for years but the price kept creeping up so tried the TM. Been a really good glove.

I’ve been partial to Taylormade gloves lately. I usually wait and see what kind of Amazon Warehouse deals I can get. Just picked up a couple more of their Stratus glove (summer humidity here in NC is killer on gloves) for less than $10 a piece. Also picked up a new 2018 Tour Preferred glove to try out as well.
