Pxg 1st impression..50/50

I just had a full range session with the gen 1 irons. 1st time ever hitting pxg and I guess after hearing and reading all the hype I’m a little disappointed. Maybe I was expecting too much and just set myself up for a let down. I currently game srixon 565 and they feel great. Don’t get me wrong the pxg irons have a great feel also and are a club longer than the 565s but I think for the price I was expecting the end all be all. I’m sure once I can spend more time with them and get them on the course I’ll have more to share.

Anyone else have similar experiences and did you move on or fall in love.

I played PXGs for over a year. I LOVED them. I got P790s in March. I sold my PXGs for couple hundred more than I paid for the P790s. My new clubs are virtually the same in distance and feel, and only a tiny bit less forgiving. I'm also no longer afraid to hit them from questionable lies. PXGs are every bit the club they promise, but I can certainly understand some of the criticisms.

PXG's boil down to "perceived value". I don't see it. Some do, and that's fine. I see value in my car where others would not etc etc. No golf club will make you a better player. Your golf mechanics will. I personally would never look at PXG's, only because i still game blades and never owned shovels. The only funny thing with PXG's marketing is all them screws on the back....it would make me feel that i have been royally screwed if i purchased them. :)

PXG's equipment are the most over rated, over hyped, over priced clubs in golf history but at the same time they are good, not so much their woods, hybrids, putters, or wedges as compared to their iron reviews on this forum. They even have clothing that are outrageously over over priced on their website. Just like any other brand out their if you wait a year till the newer stuff comes out you will get a better deal. The Hero's program for the Gen 1's now are what the actual price should have been when they 1st came out. Maybe $1500-$1600 for the Gen 2's now. I guarantee they would double their sales then.

Yes got fit. I guess the point I am trying to get at is the hype surrounding pxg. Are the guys currently gaming them happy?

All companies hype their products, PXG is just more obnoxious about it. Sounds like you fell for the hype. I’ve learned over the past few years with personal experience and research if you’re properly fitted with today’s irons (in same category), you’re not going to find a huge difference in performance. I only bought PXG irons because I like the look, feel, and they were cheaper (heroes program) then any other iron in the GI category with steel fiber shafts that passed my looks/feel preferences. My handicap has improved by only half a point from my 565’s I owned before switching. The latter is what I expected and I have no regrets on my purchase. I have two sets and will be selling the one because I’m keeping the 565’s as backups instead a second set of 0311’s.

They’re still only a set of irons. If you’re expecting superior performance over other irons because they cost more than other irons, you’re only setting yourself up for disappointment.

Hype around ALL material things in life bro!!! Jailbreak, ultimate driving machine, twistface, Harvard Law..... there is no substitute....

PXG ,like others have stated eloquently, are fine irons that STILL need to be swung properly....I didn't even factor them in until heroes program and figured what the heck....they work and so would have i210s, jpx900 forged, p790 , or any other players' stix out on the market....SERIOUSLY!

They're actually bigger in the P heads than I expected...more akin to G series than I series but still a nice look at address. I have a combo set and the short iron T heads are bigger slightly than iblade, ap2 or s55...

When struck they flight true, high and feel very soft....misses are a joy as thin strikes still perform well.... I think in my short time window the distance loss is minimal especially compared to my previous near blade psi forged tour heads...

Mr. Parsons barks and has his merchandise at a premium number, his choice to establish but consumers choice to purchase.....

Boss golf shirts are very nice but I'm not dropping 120+ on one....I'll keep hitting Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Under Armour outlets for my well priced UA gear....

Why we do complain about pricing or hype? We have choices..... peace

I tried the 0311Ts for a short time... I hit them well in the store but once I had them in hand and on the course, I was really disappointed. Feel wasn't there, turf interaction sucked... Overall, I much preferred the S55 I was playing at the same time. I am glad I tried them but now knowing, I would NEVER spend the money on PXG irons again.

I can only speak as someone who has hit them but never owned them. They felt good on center strikes, but then again damn near every club does esp when coupled with the right shaft for you. I still don’t understand the PXG hype and truly don’t know if I ever will. Maybe I’m just too frugal or cheap to spend that kind of money on something that I know deep down won’t perform any better than my current irons, but your story doesn’t seem to be a exception when it comes to these irons but rather the norm. People tend to either see them as the most amazing set of clubs that has graced the earth or you wouldn’t play them if they were gifted to you. Sucks that you had to learn this the hard way.
