F8+

Left Handed

Aldila Rogue Silver stiff shaft, 70 gram

Compared to my older Titleist 910 D3 driver (on left)

Can't tell too well from the pics, but the F8+ sits very very square - moreso than the 910D3 that is set to slight fade setting.

Maiden voyage later today....

very excite!

Just played my first round with it...holy crap...forgiving, long. My older (fitted) 910 D3 is officially kicked out. Longest drives are maybe the same as my 910 was, but I hit alot more long ones with the F8+. The best part was mishits. Pushed one and it still got out there, caught 2 a bit low on the face and I still had really good results...910 would punish me more harshly.

The sound of the F8+ is different, taking a little to get used to it...a muted thwwacck at impact. Can really go after it. Not comfy yet hitting little fades or draws during a round, so mostly hitting it straight...very well behaving driver. Love it!

Give it a month and youll think its decent. Thats just what we do with drivers.

Try taking a fresh / new ball and hit it with that driver. See if the cover has any scuffs or marks. I have heard the milled face can tear away at a ball.

This is the first I’ve heard of this, but I 100% believe it. I’ve been playing a F8+ since April and every now and then I’ll have a ball that’s got a nice cut/gash in it through a round. I couldn’t figure out if it was the Milled face, the slot around the face or my raw Sm6 doing it. But I have noticed it’s more after a drive than other shots.

... Not picking on you but I swear WRX needs to give out free Tin Hats to some members. Sooooooooo many conspiracy theories from distance irons creating 20+ yd hot spot fliers to milled faces causing ball damage. If you even think about this for a second, you would realize iron grooves are deeper, wider and much sharper than a milled faced driver and irons in the hands of normal swing speed golfers do not cause any scuffs or marks (new wedges are a different animal). I have been playing a F8 and F8+ and have over 250 rounds in with them and of course they have not caused any ball tearing, scuffing or marking with everything from Snell Blacks to TP5x and Chrome Soft balls. Of course the Tin Hats create excessive spin and sliced or hooked shots, so some will have to compensate for that. :swoon:

I actually just went back to my old LTD with an original Grafalloy Blue shaft. Killing it. Like putting on an old broken in baseball glove. It Just fits me.

I Had my best driving round of the entire year this week and the stupid WRX whore in me is immediately thinking I Might hit a F8+ even better. It’s a disease.

i haven't changed drivers in a long time.

The king F8 knocked out the 910D2. Same shaft.

I love the sound and feel when you hit it middle. Its loud, but in a good way. Sortof like blasting orchestra music on a 200 watt system. Its a great driver head.

If you hit it high/low on the club face, there is a groove around the milled face (call it that) which will cut a golf ball. Yes, I have done that.

My fitter recommended it for me / my swing. The F8+ has a slightly more compact head (440 vs 460cc) which I prefer, and the F8+ will spin a bit less.

The "SmartPad" is differently between the two. The F8 has a weight on the right, which I set to zero, giving me 12g in the rear and nothing else. The f8+ has an TM style front/back weight scheme. I'm not a Cobra scholar though, i just noticed this difference. The smartpad on the F8 is IMO more versitile having one side one back then one front one back.

I’m Sorry to be that jerk that “corrects” people, but The Smartpad has nothing at all to do with the weights. Its the sole design that adjusts how the club sits on the ground with different hosel loft settings.

Always correct me! I had no idea what it was. I assumed the smartpad was the weights because its written right next to the weight port and the weights have those weird shapes that make them look like buttons (instead of discs, like most drivers).

Any chance you can explain more about what the smartpad is / what its theory is / what it does? Does it matter if you hover? Googling has left me somewhat more confused if I'm honest.

I've had a very good experience with my new F8 so far. Hopefully not the honeymoon phase.

Without being overly technical, the smart pad is like cobras version of the compass on the bottom of the TM R1. I dont know how far the smart pad goes back but it is on my F6. I would say that neither matter, pad or compass if you hover. But if you ground the club while taking your grip, then I think it would.

It kills me when the “fitters” give you bad info. Both are 460 cc. Shape is a hair different.

Actually, my mistake here! In my mind, I 'thought' there was a volume/cc difference between the two...I remember my fitter actually saying the F8+ was 460 cc, but I assumed he was wrong...reality = I misread it. F8 and F8+ are both 460cc

So it must have a deeper face? I assume? I’m trying to replace my 913 D3 . Never thought of the F8+ until your post. Was leaning to the 917D3.

... The F8+ does not have a deeper face, just different weighting and lower spin/trajectory. It does look smaller at address however.

If you hover it’s not really that important, but most people that hover still rest the club briefly on the ground before they hover.

The “smartpad” is really just the section of sole that rests on the ground. The thing that makes it “smart” is that it’s contoured so that If you are at 9.5 or 11.5, the shape of the sole let’s it sit essentially flat with the face square to your target.

I never pay that much attention to it on my LTD. I rest it briefly then hover and align my face to my target. I will say it doesn’t want to roll open or closed like some other brands when I rest it so I guess it works.

Not so passive brag coming....

Longest drive of the year today on flat ground with the LTD back in the bag.

496 yard hole. 10 mph breeze at my back. Firm fairway. Hit it as hard as I possibly can. Nice and high. I’m left with 128 yards to pin. 80% gap wedge to 7 feet. Of course I miss the putt, but 368 yards off the tee felt pretty damn good.

Got it, that's pretty cool. do they do the same thing on their 3 wood? I basically had to set the M3 at one higher so i could line up right I'd be interested in trying the 3 wood if i can drop the loft significantly and still get a square face at address.

Big hit for sure! those always feel great. An 80% gap wedge from 128 is insane. I'm not slow (110 with driver-ish) and i hit my gap about 120 full out.

I've never played a cobra club until the demo day. I didn't hit their wedges but i really want to try the wide low. The F8 head is definitely my favorite since the 910D2. The M4 and friends are going to the BST.

I played the Cobra Tour Trusty wedges for 2-3 years before getting my Vokeys and I loved them. I have to admit, when I went through the fitting process for wedges, I liked the feel of the Cobra King wedges just as much as the Vokey SM6's. The only reason I went with the Vokeys was because they offered more variety in the options for grinds than the Cobras and so far I'm quite happy with my decision. I always try to make an non-biased decision when I get fit for anything new but as my signature line indicates... I typically end up with Cobra and Titleist products.
