Is there an Epic-demic?

So I strolled into the local Golf Galaxy and there appears to be a glut of Callaway Epics in the used driver section. Is this not a well loved driver? And there is one Rogue already there.

Meh, not much changed from Epic to Rogue as far as the driver goes.

I'l save the $ and wait 2-3 more years until something else comes out.

It's pretty common for people to continuously buy new, play it for 6 months, trade in for the new clubs. Add to that Callaway hyped the Epic more than normal in my opinion so this is what you get when people realized that unless they were fit for it they were not going to see gains.

Also looks like just about every big box store used section to me.

Also when you produce a good product you are going to sell a lot of that product. Golfers, many of whom think they can buy a game, will move onto the latest greatest. Rogues are on Callaway preowned right now. Its all about hype, lazy golfers and product cycles.

Yeah, the Epic driver is solid, especially the sub zero. There's just a lot of them out there

You sell a large volume .....you're obviously going to have a higher volume of used clubs .

What’re they selling those sub zeros for?

When we had a Golfsmith in town they would always get a huge bolus of used and “demo” Callaway drivers and fairway about a year after a new range was introduced. Has it been about 12 months for the Epic now?

You should see roger Dunn Santa Ana, they have about 100 used epics.

But other than that, I think most here have acknowledged how long the driver is, but many have noted less consistency.

If it's 10yds longer and straight, it's staying in the bag. But 10 longer and wild, trade bait.

Yeah not surprising as others have mentioned, they sold a ton of them so you are bound to see a bunch traded back in that either didn't work for some or they needed the latest and greatest. That single Rogue was probably traded back in for an Epic. Some like the Epic better than the Rogue and vice versa. I like the Rogue better myself but the G400 SFT is even a better fit for me.

I almost bought into the whole EPIC thing.

Went to my local course for a demo day just after they first came out, the were going for $699 AUD; wasn't feeling it at all. Not a fan of the carbon fibre feel and thought they were just a little overrated.

Ended up tinkering away and built my own XR16 with a Fujikura shaft from the previous Big Bertha in it and got it for $320.

And it's the best driver I've ever owned, hands down.

They sold a gazillion epics so not sure why this would shock anyone.

Got a mate who's reasonable golfer, went and put his old X series up against the Epic and gained 3 yards, guy in the shop told him not to bother.

Saw the same thing at my local Golf Galaxy yesterday. No less than a dozen Epics and Rogues. Kind of surprising

Hook machine for several people I normally play with, including me. The dual cog adapter will not allow you you open the face like most other adapters. Ball speed gains are real however.

Technically the -1 setting is open. That said, doesnt always have the same affect depending on the person and how they grip it etc.

Was there really an over-abundance of breakage issues with the Epic heads or was that issue about average considering the number sold?

This. Dicks and GG are moving all the demo clubs from Cally and TM.

The Epic would kill you on a toe miss, otherwise, a great driver.

Rogue - more forgiveness, but I'm waiting to see what Callaway does next.

I know four guys who had this driver, three had breakage. Those are the only three guys I've ever known to break a driver in my entire life. *shrug*

I thought it was epic.......

One of the worst drivers I have ever used. It was wild off the tee, then it broke. Couldn't throw that POS far enough.

Just picked up a like new epic sz for less than 200. In my hands it performs better than the Rogue SZ and I’ve yet to find anything better

Very good ball speeds off the epic, I loved the sound of it. Im not a huge fan of the head shape it looks bubbly. Not the most accurate driver out there I lost many drives high right. After 3 heads cracked I moved on or should I say back to a 905r. Lost maybe 5 yards on centre strikes but the accuracy and confidence of the 905r is deadly.

I cant wait for the bins full of G400 MAX drivers in January after the PGA show news
