Pro Clubs-Ebay- shipping scam

kwcsports

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, want to ask opinions on this situation. Purchased clubs and the auction stated USPS shipping to Canada. This method appeals to me because half the time they slip through with little or no charges. The day after I pay, I get an email that Fed Ex was delivering my clubs. I emailed Pro Clubs and was told I could refuse them at the door If I wasn't happy with Fed Ex. They arrived, I paid the 50 buck Broker fee and I'm pissed off. I also saw on the box that Pro Clubs only paid Fed Ex 30 for shipping, they charged me 64 CDN for USPS Priority to Canada. Seems shady to me, what say you ?

I've bought from them previously with no problems. They set a fixed shipping charge and they did say buyers might be responsible for any customs brokerage fees. Here is what it says to the international buyers. About shipping charge, you can try for a refund but not the brokerage fees.

International Shipping - items may be subject to customs processing depending on the item's declared value.

Sellers set the item's declared value and must comply with customs declaration laws.

As the buyer, you should be aware of possible:

- delays from customs inspection.

- import duties and taxes which buyers must pay.

- brokerage fees payable at the point of delivery.

Your country's customs office can offer more details, or visit eBay's page on international trade.

I'm sure you would say that since you're American and there's no shipping issues for you guys but if you read the original post more carefully as you should, the buyer is Canadian (like me) and if the original auction said it was supposed to be shipped by USPS, then it should be shipped by USPS. Anything else is false advertising and a little scammy to me.

I feel for him as I've been in that situation before.

I don't quite understand it, but I have sold to Canadians before and they always want USPS shipping. I almost exclusively use FedEx, I guess there are no fees or tariffs if it's shipped via USPS? I also agree that it matters what you say as a seller, who you say you will ship with. The USPS where I live is pitiful. I avoid sellers who use the USPS. If they say they use FedEx or UPS and then use the USPS it's often a real crap shoot.

If you receive a package by Fedex and they want you to cough up $50 (which is mostly a service fee) on a $20 item, you'll know why we Canucks want to ship by USPS.

Definitely shady, especially if their ad stated items would be shipped USPS. I would contact them and ask for the difference in shipping and the broker fee to be paid by them. False advertising on their part.

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

Thank you for clearing that up. Now I understand. eBay has an International Shipping program. US sellers ship the clubs or whatever to eBay first in Kentucky, and then eBay re-labels it and ships it to the customers globally. I don't know what service eBay uses, but it is a slick way to sell to Canada. If the USPS wasn't a dumpster fire where I live I would be happy to ship that way otherwise.

If you paid to have shipped via USPS it should have been shipped via USPS. Using FEDEX after the fact can come off a bit shady. It is ProClubs tho. They have a great reputation.

If you want to get political conspiracy theorist here ProClubs is based out of Arizona I believe. That is a huge red state. They could be trying to stick it to a Canadian. If you want to be all political conspiracy theorist here.

Like I said in this other thread about Pro Clubs (not sure that this required it's own thread - the OP commented in that thread so he is aware it exists), I've had the same happen to me. Not a deal breaker at all, as it's more inconvenient than it is a scam (though as I said in the post, it is a little shiesty). I've gotten some great deals on nice stuff from Pro Clubs, so I won't let it stop me from buying from them, but it's certainly something to be aware of when buying that the potential is there to receive an item much later than you expect - not a deal breaker, but definitely something to consider before completing the deal. And, apparently for our Canadian neighbors, the potential is there to get hit with unexpected charges after the fact.

I don't see a problem shipping by FedEx when ad indicates USPS, so long as it gets to you in the same timeframe (eg, switching from USPS Priority to a much slower ground service would be different). Can understand a seller choosing a cheaper shipping service if delivery time will be the same. That said, when this may be the case for my ebay listings that have free shipping I'll indicate "will ship by least expensive ground service" or something similar to make it crystal clear.

My personal problem was that I paid for USPS Priority, an expedited service according to eBay, and got FedEx Home, which is not expedited and much slower. I'd have no problem if they were subbing a comparable service, but they aren't. They're advertising and charging for an upgrade and providing the cheapest option available to them.

Does sound like the option was there to reject the package and “return to sender” if the OP didn’t like the method used so a little reach to call it a “scam”. I’m sure it didn’t cost them $10 to send me the iron head I ordered either, but that was the shipping charge I knew I was paying when I bought it.

Feel like you should call them and sort it out with them.

They probably ship USPS domestically and Fedex internationally if I had to guess.

That’s not the case.

This is one of the reason why I only buy clubs located in Canada now, that and shipping time. Sure the selection is a lot less but shipping is $15 and 3/4 days vs $45+ and 2-3 weeks to ship. I won’t buy clubs from the states any more.

  • 1 year later...

just ordered a club from these guys and emailed the to make sure they shipped usps so I don’t get charged a big customs broker fee through the couriers. Key difference is usps comes to you via Canada post once I hits the border which doesn’t gouge you on the broker fees. They emailed me back and confir they would send usps

I don't see a problem The problem is is that with usps you will have to pay for duties and taxes as it crosses the border, with fedex you also get charged a handling fee on top of these charges just for using their shipping company. As an American you don't understand this because you don't have to deal with it. This is why us Canadians always request USPS
