QOTD: How many long till you give up on equipment?

How many rounds do you give a new piece of equipment (woods, irons, putter) before giving up on it and moving onto something else?

It took awhile, and a shaft change, and change back for me to get used to my driver. I'm glad I stuck it out.

I come to grips and realize it likely me and not the equipment.

If you look down at the club and you are not in love with it and it does not give you confidence . It is time to move on .

Usually after a range session and a round. While new clubs do take some time to get used to, they should perform well from the start.

Not sure. It depends. How well I am swinging vs when the trial happens. I’m not swinging well so won’t blame my AP1s .

PREtty quick. Sometimes a driver can get a few tries. But a wedge. Please. It better come out of the womb clipping the legs out form under a ball. Irons may live a while ( couple days) to get lie angles and weights dialed.

Overall it has to pass the look test immediately. Then it has to perform somewhat after 2-3 swings. I’ve laid drivers down after 2 swings. I bought a 712 set of ap2 once that didn’t make it to my property. I stopped and hit balls on the way home. Left the range and wentbsck to the shop I bought them out of and swapped them back in for store credit. Hated them that much. Worse feeling iron I ever hit. I question their authenticity they felt so bad.

I give them a few range sessions. In the past I've HATED a new club but eventually it ended up being the most tenured club in my bag.

Took 3 swings on the range with my blind ordered rogue 3 wood and knew it was going to be my gamer for a long time to come. If it takes some adjustments to get comfortable with it, it probably wasn't meant to be.

I have hit stuff and it feel great the first few swings on the range. Then hit the course and things got shakey. Like my clubs became traitors. I usually trade them in after that, depending on what it is.

One and done. If a club fits you you'll know. Of course I can hit bad shots with any club but it shouldn't be fighting you.

... Two rounds. Anyone can have an off day. I watched a guy on tour hit 2 balls OB off the first tee last week and I don't think he gave up on that driver. But a second round with poor results is enough to know that, for whatever reason, this club just isn't the right one for you.

You can tell alot after a round or two.

About 10 balls. Anymore and I start trying to compensate for the club.

9 holes. I always have my old club in the trunk so I can go back to it at the turn if need be. But if I really want to like a club I will leave it in the living room and say hi to it regularly, then it may get another chance in the bag. Another 9 holes and it either stays, or goes for good.

I try to give them a couple rounds. Get a feel for how they perform on a good day and a bad day and somewhere in between.
