I tried on a very nice wool version of one of those style caps at Royal Dornoch while on vacation - my daughter simply looked at me and said, "No, Dad!".

That was the extent of my foray into anything related to BDC.

I cut down all my shafts today, put a wind barometer, level and TI 80 in the bag.

Crap, I just got used to bowing my left wrist at the top of my swing.
Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

    i dont know about that

the one good thing it appears about his technique, is that knowing where the plane should be at all times allows him to swing harder.

the one bad thing for me at least would be getting used to the upright lies ... standard already looks unplayably upright to me.

    You're kidding, right?

His mental prowess as a math/science whiz (which may or may not be genius-level) has nothing to do with his golf swing and the fact that he uses a set of (mostly) same-length clubs.

Anybody can try to emulate that swing -- and many people would probably have solid results by incorporating some/most/all of what he does. Some would hate it, of course.

I switched to a mid-size grip recently AND built up the right hand with three extra layers of tape to greatly decrease the taper. That does change the swing weight, though, so you have to be careful.

I believe you skipped over the “(for me at least)” it may work for a lot of people but too much thinking and would drive myself crazy. Have a good one

Not looking to any time soon it’s his swing with his concept of irons. I’ll do my swing and enjoy golf the way I have without tryin to change my swing

Dammit Monte you've been doing this for long enough to know that somebody doing something weird, that works for them means they have 'the secret' figured out and everybody should **** well get with the program. Next time I'm at one of your clinics I'll have my single length gear in hand, I'll be expecting a thorough explanation of how to get my vertically challenged body to emulate Bryson. And if that fails I know you have the Hogan 'secret' figured out as well. Even though my knuckles don't drag the ground when I walk I'm sure we can make one of those guys swing work for me!

Interesting. Did you adjust the settings on your driver at all?

I’ve been playing the F7 One Length since late last year.

It took a decent amount of time for me to adjust... and I still have BAD days (pun intended).

I immediately loved the longer 9i and wedge tho, especially the built-in increased peak apex, as I never was a high ball hitter to begin with.

No but I changed my swing due to Dustin Johnson’s success year. Half way through my round decided my 105 SS wasn’t doing it so decided to try full DJ. Started swing about 130 mph now and couldn’t be happier. Distance improved greatly and scores dropped. Don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago!

Means copying good players anomalies just because they have success. Dustin Johnson extreme bow and huge right side bend for example

I've played and still play every once in a while a set of single length irons. They are fun to play with. They are also a few degrees upright from my regular set.

As for Bryson. Good on him for winning without a "normal" swing. I think it's fantastic for the game of golf.
  • WHC888WHC888 Members Posts: 2,736 ✭✭
since Bryson's 6-PW are single length (6 iron length) irons, the only distance differentiator would be "loft". does that mean he would have different trajectories for each club in contrast of normal pros that have "one "optimal" trajectory throughout the bag??

I am a documented genius, according to Mensa, but I think my hand-eye coordination is a bit better as I have no need for straightening/locking my arms to hit a golf ball with any consistency. To each their own.

His swing is no worse than Jim Furyk's from a style perspective. But from a shear accuracy standpoint I'd take Moe's swing over Bryson's. But that's just me. image/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

For years when I was younger, I played kind of like Moe Norman and DID have my hands high. I gradually moved away from that to where I'm kind of hunched over and my arms hang very low. I've always struggled with my posture being too "bent over" at address, so I just thought: "What would happen if I felt like I was standing straighter up and extended my arms out a bit form my body." And I liked the way it felt and I liked the way I was hitting the ball that way. Going to stick with it with the driver for a bit....
