Early morning golf

Could not resist posting this pic. A few of us got the first tee time this morning at a local course...teed off at 6:37 AM....sunrise was at 6:36 so when we got out into the first fairway, this was the scene behind us looking back to the pro shop.

We played efficiently and never saw anyone else until we were finished.....18 holes in 3 hours 15 minutes..... I LOVE morning golf!! image/taunt.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':taunt:' />

We’re early every day, too. With most of Northern California burning down this summer, the smoke made for the most amazing sunrises I’ve ever seen.

Had lots of mornings where we were home by 9:00 a.m. before it got crowded and hot. There’s nothing better.

I'm a morning golf guy myself. Last two 18 rounds I played were at 6:56 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. Finished both in three and a half hours. You get to avoid the heat for most of your round, take in quality scenery, and play faster.

I’ll do this my brother in law. We’re usually done in around 3 hours and sometimes less. It’s great on hot summer days. I just have to remember I’m usually a club shorter when I play this early .

I play 5-6 days a week and I am usually in the first group, teeing off before 7am(typical sunrise time in s.e. Florida).

Done way before 10am, then it’s in the clubhouse for breakfast and drinks.

    Nap after....

Wake up and think about dinner somewhere

I much prefer playing early golf. Only downside is the course is usually wet and some of the staff on some courses just don't seem to know how to stay out of the way.

I play a fair amount by myself on weekdays, and the vast majority of the time it's the first tee time of the day. It's so nice to just be able to get out and go. The only thing I dislike is teeing off facing the rising sun and having no idea where your ball might be :-)

Early mornings are definitely the way to go! That's our preference for sure. Played some late morning golf while on a trip last weekend and it was brutal. Two 5+ hr rounds.

    This is obviously a different trip image/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Best time to play by far. We have our regular game at daybreak every weekend when there isn't snow. Typically home by 10.

You're in their way -- they have work to do. If the shop let's players out too early, it takes them longer to get the course ready.

I'm usually not a morning person, but in my stage of life right now it is really the best time for me to play golf. I've found it to be really enjoyable. I can sometimes get a quick 9 in before work. I love the temperature, the quiet, and purity of playing by yourself. Score doesn't really matter. No external pressures. Just yourself and the game.

Isn’t there some golf architecture guideline (often not followed) that opening holes shouldn’t head East, and closing holes shouldn’t head West because of the sun?

Weekday early morning golfer here! During mid summer I can get a full 18 in and still get to work on time. My course let's me tee off before the clubhouse opens. I know all the groundskeepers. I don't mind if they do their thing while I putt out or whatnot and they get out of the way on approaches quickly. It's a good system.

I used to do early morning 9s before work, but I stopped because of the work part, lol. The last two holes I start getting bummed I was about to head to the office.

So prefer afterwork 9s during the work week, then I'd have something to look forward to.

How many months of the year can you do the early morning thing, where it's not too swampy? I know in the PNW that's a loaded question, but all things being equal Apr-Oct?

I snuck in a 6:45 nine today. It was phenomenal. Earliest I've ever been out. Course was in great shape and uncrowded. Ranger sent me off the back, and I never hit a group in front.

75 minutes later I wrapped up, hit the grocery, and picked up the football snacks. Home before 830, wife too sleepy to care.
