Rogue Sub Zero V Deep Face Prototype

Did I miss the fact that something like this existed? I found this on eBay:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F223134060820

When I reached out to the seller regarding the depth of the face, here is what I was told:

“The measurements of the V Prototype are these starting at the dead center of the club face from top to bottom of the club face 51.41 mm compared to 50.90 mm on the standard sub zero./from the jail break weight on the toe side bottom to top is 51.34 mm ,standard sub z 48.2m /on the heel side jail break weight v Prototype 50.25mm on the standard sub z it’s 47.25mm.It appears that the most predominant increase is to the left and right of center of the club face and towards the toe.It looks like a chunkier shape to the head but retaining a 460cc size ,I can’t swear it’s still 460 but if it’s not it’s close.Im playing with a 10.5’V type and it’s fantastic. The club face stays square to target much better than the regular sub z. My first round with it I missed 2 fairways but not by much. Seems a little harder to work the ball for me. It seems to just go straight.”

I like the concept of a deep faced driver with jailbreak. My biggest complaint was the shallow depth of the rogue driver. I’m not sure this will be deep enough for my liking, but I figured I’d share the information to see what else people know.

What is this?? Looks great. I'd have been all over this. I wonder if it's more Epic SZ shaped or even deeper face than that.

The coolest stuff never makes it to retail.

This just reminds me of the Epic 440. A unicorn that could only be had by dropping big $$$. I hate seeing multiple versions of the sale club without the general population having access to them all. I checked the conforming list and see a Rogue Tour listed as well.

Wow $900 is a lot to gamble on something you can't hit first. But I do miss the older real deep faces and shorter front to back profile driver heads.

Thats a beauty, the middle is roughly the same but the area of the jail break is significantly deeper, like 4-5mm !!! I like it a lot, not sure if it is any good though, the Epic SZ440 was a dud in my hands, so maybe im more suited for retail offerings : )

That's why I wish some of these options would hit stores. That way you could try it without breaking the bank and losing your @ss if it doesn't work.

Still searching for an Epic 440 that I can actually afford. Can get M1 440's all day for cheap. But I really thought the Epic was special.

Guys, we have been trying to gain access to some of these Callaway items and to say we were stonewalled on obtaining them for resale is quite accurate. It doesn't mean we will stop trying as the demand is obvious.

Any idea if there are a lot of these in play on tour? I didn't know they existed until the other day. If it's really limited, I can understand how they don't want to release these since they are probably tooling up for next years model already.

This is true. You guys can get some screaming deals from time to time on previous year clubs. But, the OEM's still don't give our brothers from the other side of the tee box enough respect.

There may be some patent infringement that comes into play if they release it for sale.

How so?

I'm not sure and don't have the time to research if it's the case with this head but sometimes a driver will infringe on a COG patent so they'll just release a prototype and not offer it to the public. I think Callaway has the best COG patent on a driver head with a removable shaft so that may not be the case here but that has been the practice in the past.

That's crazy. You can patent where in the head you place the center of gravity?

There are TONS of different Callaway heads on Tour. Varying cg location drivers, deeper faced, 440cc, etc. Probably a dozen different heads. The info is just not out there and they make them near impossible to get. I think there's a market for it, assuming the products are fit properly.

I would agree, even if it was something that was made to order and not available off the rack. I guess the decision makers there seem to think that slice reduction, heel to toe forgiveness, and spin reduction fit 99% of amateurs.

I really think the jailbreak tech would be maximized on a superdeep/Cleveland classic type head.

I almost think the opposite might be try. The deeper the face the less effect jailbreak would have I would think. I'm probably wrong.

I always thought that the reason the original epic fairways and hybrids didn’t have it was because they claimed they were too shallow for it to have any practical effect. Then they reengineered the rogue line to have it, but without the adjustability to save weight. Maybe it was just a weight issue all along.

I would understand not making such things available to someone who did not test and fit the products, as some are pretty specialized, however that's not the case with us. I'm going to continue to keep the dialog open and hopefully, eventually it leads somewhere. I know so many guys who will not play anything other than Taylormade woods because you can choose exact specs through Tour items. Every other company who doesn't allow them this is simply not considered.
