Building single length set

I'm thinking of trying to make a single length set from an old set of Bridgestone J33 combos that I have lying around. Would using a combo set be a benefit or a detriment? All the heads will be different, but would the progressive CG give me a headstart in gaining launch angle on the long irons and decreasing it on the short irons?

My serious advice. Buy a nice one length set used off of eBay. Wishon or Cobra.

There are a million threads on here of failed attempts at trying it with a stock set of heads and shafts.

The one length sets are very carefully engineered. They do not just use standard heads and shafts and modify the lies and head weights.

You will need to add a huge amount of weight to your long irons and grind off a huge amount on the short irons and they will still not work properly.

They will not work and you will throw them in the trash.

Agree'd just buy a set.

I'll fourth this thought, bastardizing a standard variable length set won't be a positive journey. Better to buy something.

Personally, I picked up a set of Pinhawks...

I started with pinhawks (valugolf) because they were cheap and single length.

They turned out to be pretty nice clubheads.

Indo love my sterlings but wouldn't hesitate to build a pinhawk set again

You are right, its either buying a "true single length" set, or as a good option, we can go 3/8" who gives us the same resistance on all clubs who is part of the Single length concept.

All your words of caution have slightly deterred me. I'm not going to touch the 8-pw so I don't have to remove weight, but I'll cut down, bend, and add weight to 4-6. I'm more interest in doing this for the tinkering and journey, I've already accepted that this might be a huge failure. By only doing the long clubs it'll be easy to go back to traditional length, lie, and weight if I want to.
