Is it possible Nike still owns his naming rights with respect to golf clubs?

Tiger owns his name, logos etc.

Aren't the rors proto irons similar to Tigers? I'd have thought releasing them as the main MB in their line would have taken a lot of business away from the rest of the market.

People want EXACTLY what tiger plays and wears, even when they probably shouldn’t. That’s how it works.

Look at all the ugly azz Nike shoes and clothes he’s managed to sell. Yuck. Such garbage.

What if Scotty made an exact Tiger replica out of “standard” (non GSS) steel for $699? How many could he sell? And why has that never been done? That’s just bizarre actually.

Really is insane. What’s even more insane is they could make a s*** ton of money by just stamping his name on something that looks remotely close to what he’s playing. I know the nikes he used to sell weren’t exactly like the ones in his bag. I’d buy a replica putter too. But those blades are damn sexy. Missing out on some serious cash TM

I completely agree people want the exact same clubs.

So why on earth should they offer a putter that is just like Tiger’s but made from a different steel? The cost of the material is not what makes the GSS putters so expensive. And why would someone pay $699 for that instead of $703 for one made from GSS?

I completely get that. My point, albeit not well made, was they'd make a boat load of cash selling them because there's a few your players playing similar. It'd be strange for them not to capitalise.

I completely agree. You have paid a giant bucket of money to have the GOAT on your staff. He’s playing great.

Why in World do you not have a TW iron for the public?? It’s bordering on business insanity.

I have it from a source on the inside that his contract with Taylormade is performance based. I don't know the exact numbers, but if he doesn't play well or not at all then TM doesn't pay him a dime. I suspect it's only a matter of time based on his recent play that we'll see a TW iron in the near future.

Pure speculation here, but I would guess that if there is a Phase One release, it will be a limited Vault offering.

Or, maybe Tiger has a TW set in the works (Phase One does sound awfully transitory) and the retail will come out then. Or maybe the P730 and Phase One will merge at the end of the P730 life cycle and all of the blade players will play the same iron, which will be in the retail line.

But mostly, I think TM is/was waiting for the comeback to be complete before they offer anything. No point in ramping up production for a one-off product (ie, only one staffer plays) with a limited consumer base (collectors, GolfWXRs, plus handicappers).

Or maybe they just ran out of unobtainium after they built his set. Just sayin’.

TM isn't the old TM, they are owned by a venture capital group that isn't going to jump into the deep end of the Tiger pool without some certainty they will make some money. Tigers clubs are not for everyone, probably only 20% of the market is good enough to play them and they probably have to give Tiger a good chunk of the profits if they use his name on them.

Based on what's been said in Tiger interviews of the past he is very particular regarding what he expects from his irons. A certain look, feel, and flight. I suspect the CG location is a fair bit different from the retail offerings, in addition we know, from what's been published about his clubs previously, that his lofts are weaker too. I doubt there are very many people, even better players, willing to adapt to what Tiger actually uses, so that leaves Taylormade with some sort of Tiger inspired model, which would water down the whole concept, if the irons would come to pass.

There, I fixed that for you.

TM doesn't have to look too far back to see how well Nike irons sold with Tiger at has peak. Be surprised if they make that mistake unless it is a very limited release. Heck, they even had a clause in the endorsement deal (to void it) if Tiger's back exploded and he didn't play enough.

As stated, Tiger own's his everything so unless he signs off on it, it isn't going to happen.

Well, this is exactly what every other nike blade was, they still seemed to sell okay.

Actually, you pretty much described the clubs of every tour player vs. normal retail offerings.

Most tour players irons are identical to retail offerings. Some may have a slight grind alteration on the soles, but usually they are the same clubs.

If this is true, which I highly doubt it is, it’s far more likely there are performance based multipliers to the base parts of the deal. The idea that out of the goodness of his heart and the quality of the equipment Tiger would play TM for free unless he played well is hilarious. Tiger could barely make cuts for the rest of his life and he would still be a walking ATM for specific segments of the golf community (see the record ratings the PGA has this season due to the GOAT returning).

Also, unless Woods is getting the same type of brand ownership deal he has with Nike for any future TM/TW collaborations or branding, he needs new lawyers. This latter part is the only way I see the “play” aspects of his contract being smaller than one would expect. Ownership, without the inherent liabilities of ownership, is far more profitable.

They’d never sell a solid GSS putter for under $2000. They will always be Circle T “tour only” to keep the B.S. mystique going about GSS.

You’re missing my point I guess. Plenty of people would pay much more than the standard retail of $365.00 to own a “Tiger Woods” style newport 2. I’m just guessing at a price point throwing out $699.00.

Well, I'm not on tour, so I don't know for sure. Perhaps you are, and you do know.

All I'll say is one of the fitters/builders that's done some work for me has fitted dozens of tour players and worked all over the world and he said "none" of them play retail irons. The vast majority (he says everyone, but I also doubt this is the case) have custom irons that are then just stamped with whatever logo/branding/numbering the player's club sponsor wants on there. He said lots of people are playing Miura forged clubs that are then stamped with a Nike swoosh (back in the day), or a TM logo, or whatever. Look at Tiger's wedges this year as an example... they are all stamped taylormade but it's been pretty well documented that they're coming from Artisan golf. I'd be flabbergasted if it wasn't the same case for his blades.
