Wilson FG Tour F5 irons

Saltire

Recommended Posts

I'm on the lookout for another set of irons and my local pro shop has a used set of these irons for sale at £195, I've had a look and they're excellent conditon. Does anyone have any info on these irons? GI or players iron? Traditional lofts? I really have no idea how good Wilson clubs are, do they compare with the major manufacturers like Titleist, TM, Callaway etc?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Wilson Staff FG Tour series inculding V2, V4, F5 and V6 are all great clubs. Some of the most underrated clubs of the past 7 years. Have had the V4's, MP 4's and TM 790's.

The quality of the Wilson Staffs are at least equal to those. After that, just depends on how they look tp tour eye.

I found the FG V4's set up very well distance wise with 50, 54, 58 wedges and a 19 degree hybrid.

I have a set of the V4’s. I hit both the F5 and V6’s and they are both quality sets. I did remove the plastic badge from the back and they look even better.

Any pics of “badgeless” V4’s? I like mine, thus far (first season).

I've seen it before, didn't look bad. This is as close as I can find a picture, will have to use some imagination.

Agreed, I have the exact same setup. Kicking around the 4 utility since I don't hit the set 4i all that well. But they are great irons.

Fantastic set! Great feel, forgiveness and consistency.

Looks somewhat GI, forgives like a GI, feels and plays like a players CB otherwise

V4 Utility for me (4), as well. That is a really nice, underrated, club. Easier to hit than the 4 iron and solid feeling.

F5 have some of the easiest to hit long irons of all time. The undercut on the long irons goes nearly to the sole and there’s no such thing as a thin strike. They are wonderful irons, just a little large to my eye.

Plus the finishes don’t match the other Wilson irons so combo sets drive the ocd nuts.

It still blows my mind when people ask if Wilson Staff irons are as good as other manufacturers. I get that for a while Wilson was in the Big Box stores, but their irons have such a great history. I have played the Staff Blades, The Staff Progressives and the FGv4's and all of them are top notch and I would put them against any brand.

p.s. I just realized I did not use the term "gamed", I hope you all know what I meant by played.... ;)
