    This isn't a green reading device; it's a programmable robot called Sphero. It looks like the kid programmed it to roll a certain distance and direction in an attempt to go in the hole.

    If I had to put money on it, and I'm not smart in the programming world, but I'd say he was able to code it to roll at a certain rate and follow "golf ball law", (for the lack of a better term in my head), on the green.
