Tobacco Road in Sanford NC. Their logo is a Tobacoo Leaf and deer skull. It's pretty sweet, and a fun track as well. It's listed as one of America's 50 toughest courses (#10 according Golf Digest in 2007), though I think it's pretty easy if you know where to hit the ball...your first time out it's a bear due to lots of blind tee shots.

The photo gallery is worth a look...

6t4gto,

I have played Furnace Creek a couple of times. This was back in the '90s, summertime, both times it was approx. 120* F. So hot I couldn't beleive it. First time I lodged a ball in a Palm Tree off the tees and the next year I went back and I could still see it in the tree. Fun times.

I've actually played Furnace Creek about 10 times. I was managing some construction in Death Valley for a while. I appreciated the fact that there was a golf course in the middle of hell....so no complaints from me....lol.

My favorite golf course name is Jackass Flats, Parker AZ. Sometimes wild jackasses roam the "fairways"...really. Something of a local secret as there is no grass anywhere on the course, so its hard to find. It requires some special friends for a foursome...sometimes a case of beer is consumed before the turn..... ;)

Tobacco Road is a good track. So is Tot Hill Farm, and its about 30 miles or so from Tobacco Road. You think TR is tough, Tot Hill is 3 spots up on the difficult list at #7!!! Strantz has some pretty wicked designs, and they all have that skull and horns logo.

As far as the coolest named course I have ever played, Teeth of the Dog. Awesome track!

It's alot of fun, buy a yardage book if you ever get the chance to play it.

It gets easier exponentially once you know where to hit the tee shots. And how the greens behave.

I've played the Wizard, it was a nice track...the hardest (firmness wise) greens I have ever been on when we played it...we literally couldn't hold a full lob wedge. I hit a nutted LW on one hole, it brought rain, and when it landed it bounced literally about 15 feet up in the air and went probably 20 feet past the tiny ball mark it made.

The Pit in North Carolina.

Never played the Pit, have always heard good things about it though.

Tot Hill is a good course...some people hate Tobacco Road and Tot Hill, I think it's feast or famine with them. You either love them or hate them.

P.A.R. Country Club (Procter Area Recreation) in Deleon, TX. Only thing unique is the name and the lack of a single bunker on the course.

Starr Hollow in Tolar, TX is named for Belle Starr who was a cattle rustler in the olden days. Course is 9 holes with 18 tee boxes and is owned by the Leonard family in Fort Worth. It sits on the ranch of Marvin Leonard who also founded and built Colonial Country Club and Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth.

This is a great Topic. True Blue Plantation in Myrtle Beach is one of my favorite names. They even have a Blue Tin roof clubhouse.

Another Strantz course. Same guy as the Tobacco Road/Tot Hill. The Caledonia Golf and Fish Club across the road from True Blue is a peach too.

Definitely. They used to run specials where you could a get discount for playing both in 1 day. Caledonia is a Strantz course as well. True Blue is more of a straightforward course, whereas Caledonia has more of a Tobacco Road/Tot Hill feel imo. I enjoyed them both though. ;)
