Are these irons even made?

Recommended Posts

Picture this. A game improvement sized iron head, with the offset of a players iron. Imagine the Titleist AP1 iron head, with the offset of the AP2. Or the Mizuno 919 Hot Metal head, with the offset of the 919 Forged.

As I transition to playing less and less, I want to try something with more forgiveness, but I can't take the offset of the GI/SGI irons. I can still square the club face with no problem, I just want more forgiveness when missing the sweet spot a bit.

As I've researched, I can't find any GI heads that are around the 3.5mm/.137in of offset in the 5 iron, and less as they play down. Everything I've seen has much, much more. I don't even care if it is a component head. I'll build it to my specs.

Thoughts??

i210 has progressive offset.

.15 on 5 iron and less on each shorter club. Very close to what you’re asking for.

I personally have never understood the obsession with low offset or non offset irons on this site.

I love progressive offset in irons. No offset in the long irons freaks me out.

I've been in your same mindset for a while now. My best recommendations are Nike Vapor Fly irons (low offset at stock lofts), and the Clevelend CBX irons/wedges all bent 2 degrees weak. The wedges bent weak look amazing, and I'm guessing the irons will look good as well.

I’m with you. Also add low bounce and traditional lofts to the things I don’t understand the obsession.

From another post, bending 2 degrees weak can reduce offset by 1.5mm. That would put the CBX 4 iron at 22 degrees loft, and 2.7mm offset!

Yes, these irons exist.

Cobra KING Forged Tour: https://www.cobragolf.com/king-forged-tour-iron-set

Size of a more forgiving iron like 919 Hot Metal or AP3 inspiring a lot of confidence with less offset than even the Taylormade P730 blades. MPF rates the Cobra's super high at 557 (if you're into that sort of thing), and below are the offset in millimeters between the Cobra's and Taylormade muscleback irons:

Iron --> Cobra --> Taylormade

3 --> 2.3 --> 2.1

4 --> 2.0 --> 2.0

5 --> 1.8 --> 1.9

6 --> 1.5 --> 1.8

7 --> 1.3 --> 1.7

8 --> 1.3 --> 1.6

9 --> 1.3 --> 1.5

PW --> 1.3 --> 1.4

The Cobra's are also 1* stronger lofted than the TM, so if you ordered them at 1* weak you'd reduce that offset even more.

Respectfully I am the exact opposite from you on this one. I want minimum offset on all of the irons--- I guess it is what one learns with or what fits one's eye

Nothing wrong with the G400s and 919 Hot Metals. Rumour has it on here, G400s are being placed with something sleeker!? Might want to wait for those?! ;)

Bending 2* weak will only reduce offset by about .75mm. I did an experiment and posted photos here.

And I'm unaware of any irons the same size as the AP1 which have lower offset. Most of the low offset irons mentioned in this thread are smaller.

The size of these seem to be on the smaller size. At least from the pictures. Are they in the size range of the AP1?

Ben Hogan BH-5 irons. (The NON-offset version) The 5 iron is .0125 progressively down to zero.

Now this is in my range. But aren't these irons 15 years old?

I noticed that most of the responses have been for smaller iron heads. Or they still have too much offset, but i'm glad for the input

Bridgestone J15 Dual Pocket are about the size you want and they don't have a ton of offset. And the offset that's there is well blended and doesn't show as much as the numbers suggest.

Honestly, if you are going to play less and less, as you put it. Why change or purchase anything?

Making a finacial purchase just to watch the dust grow on a bag of new irons , whats the point ?

They are made of 17-4 stainless, so very durable. I bet you could find some in very good condition fairly cheap.

P790, i500. If you can get past the last few hundreths of an inch that opens up 0311XF, 0311, CF16, Z585. I have wasted quite a bit of money in the last 24 months on irons and I've only played <10 rounds. The longest blade length with the least amount of offset is 0311XF. Keep in mind it's no near the amount of offset your looking for but it's the largest with the least. The 0311 Gen1 can be had at a price point that is on par with the P790 and i500. Be careful as I've stated you can waste some $$$$$ looking for perfect.
