I’m not going to lie, but I am a bit disappointed in the 919Ts. I’ve lost at least a club from my 716 AP2’s. Lofts are the same on both sets, but I was fit for a different shaft. AP2s were X100s, and the 919s are Rifle Blank 6.0’s, so obviously a softer and higher spinning shaft. Could a shaft issue be causing a 15 yard difference in the two? Feel is amazing on the 919’s, but they just seem to go nowhere and drop out of the sky for me. Thoughts?

If the ball is launching higher and spinning more, then it would definitely contribute to the distance loss. You also might be finding the center of the face more with the AP2/X100 combo

Definitely a shaft issue. I have played both JPX 919 Tour and AP2 718's with the same and different shafts (but similar) and they go the exact same distance for me within 2-3 yards from PW down to the 5 iron.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I feel I am hitting making good contact with the ball, so I am leaning to the shaft issue. I am going to try out some of the forged and see if it makes any difference. I guess fittings can go a lot of ways, and you never really know until you game them.

Wanted to bring this thread back to life. Just got a set of 919 tours 6-PW. I am planning on getting a forged 5 iron since that is the club where my ball striking typically starts to struggle. I also wanted to get opinions on the hot metal pro 4 iron. Does anyone have this option at the top end of their set?

Best to gap test. The HMP is a rocket launcher. You may have funky distances unless you strengthen some tours and weaken forged and HMP. Some people bunch up too much at the top of the bag so stock lofts could work as well. Just have to hit them and work out the gaps.

Full Disclaimer - I am a huge Mizuno fan.

I ordered the 900F direct from the factory here in Scotland and despite doing tonnes of researh and testing on shaft combos I don't think I could have got it more wrong. I hit all my irons low and flat and the 900Fs with PX LZ 6.5s just produced knuckle balls, even when hit well. I retreated back to my MP30s and took stock. Ended up selling the 900Fs and demoing the 919s, these were an improvement and with different shafts (I will never leave TTX100/S400 again) I got better results. Right about when I was going to pull the pin on 919s the rumours of the MP20s came about. Glad I waited. Going to get fit for these in 2 weeks.

What seems to have come out now, someone correct me if I'm wrong, is that the 900Fs and to a degree the 919Ts were quite low launch in the mid to long irons. Granted I did not make a great shaft choice for me, even with a 115SS, but I couldnt get the long irons airborne. I'm placing all my hopes and dreams on a set of MP20s with X100s.

Don't know how I lost track of this thread but i just wanted to chime back in ... full disclosure i am a Mizzy ho being on my 5th set over last 15-20 yrs building & tweaking my own forever
Im about 9 mos in & still love my F / Hm combo set ... I did replace the Hm 6 once I started playing better (the Hms are just long high bombers) .. I had them all fit & gapped which resulted in the Hms being delofted to match the Fs ... I am carrying all clubs 10 yards minimum longer than last year's 850s
I believe the full fitting (my 1st ever) hitting outside & inside was the major diff

I lost yardage too but because they spun too much.

Just got my final set of 919's. 6-PW 919 tours, 5 iron 919 Forged, and Hot Metal Pro 4 iron.
After a few range sessions i love how they feel. If i'm being completely honest, my first two sessions were awful because i was not swinging well at all. Finally went back and started to catch some on the screws again and that's when I got excited. All have Nippon Modus3 120 S shafts, and I love how the ball gets in the air and looks to almost float. I'm going to get on a launch monitor to make sure my gaps are correct, but so far so good.
I may be most excited about the Hot Metal Pro 4 iron. Even my misses were carrying to respectable numbers and when I struck it well it was a rocket. Cant wait to use this off the tee.

I have a 4 and 5 iron in the forged with 6-PW tour and that's a good setup. Forged ones are super forgiving.

I have jpx tours from 4-PW. I am thinking of replacing the 4 and 5 iron by hot metal pro. Anyone done that and how is it working out ? The lofts are very different so I might end up with two 6 irons and a 5 from HMP. The forged and tour are so similar in forgiveness the change doesn’t seem worth it

I'm trying to decide between T and F. In recent years I played 3-5x/year, never had full-swing lesson other than 1 recent swing evaluation. Currently shoot mid 80's on average difficulty courses (Ko'olina) and high 90s on demanding courses (Royal Hawaiian). Starting 2-3 weeks ago I decided to take lessons and hit balls at least 2x/week.

Forged on indoor trackman was great, extremely smooth and forgiving but seems to mask feedback. Tour off grass is honest - centered hits feel amazing, lets me know exactly where/how I struck the ball, albeit with less distance and forgiveness. Most people suggest the Forged based on current score but I'm leaning toward Tour for the honesty and growth potential. If the Forged had the feedback of the Tours then I'd probably go with Forged.

My scores would be similar to yours. I have Tour in PW-7i and F in 6i and 5i.

A season in and my scores have dropped. My love of the Tours is as strong as it always was. I haven’t completely warmed to the Forged personally.

Months ago I said that I could play the Tours in every iron, but I couldn’t go Forged through the whole bag. I stick by that. To me they have more ball speed hit near the center, but I question if they have any real degree of forgiveness more than the Tours.

I’m currently evaluating changing the Forged out for Tours or MP-20 HMB. I’ve been very impressed hitting the demo HMB and to me it blends better with the Tours because the jump in offset isn’t so large. I’d point out though that I prefer less offset. If you prefer more offset you may prefer the Forged.

Don’t shy away from the Tours because they aren’t forgiving enough, though. They’re forgiving enough, and they’re the sort of club that gives you the feedback you need without beating your up. You can always blend at the top end of the bag or even go hybrid.

Just picked up some 919F 4-5 and 919T 6-PW. Really enjoyed the first time out with them. Really consistent depth, lovely feel and look great. I've gamed AP2, 0311T and i210 at times this season and I think I may be able to settle on these Mizuno's.

On -, @PorscheFan thank you. On my way to order a set. I considered F in longer irons but OCD is making me buy a full set of T’s, even if I end up not hitting 4i much. But I think weighted properly I should be able to hit it. Got KBS Tour X shafts =D

Are you guys using the 919 SW with the tours? Looks like the T7 and S18 are history.

I personally use Honma wedges, but only because they are similarly simple to Mizuno wedges. I just happened to get them on a deal. Is the SW really a SW that spans the whole JPX line, in which case it might be a smidge chunky? At some point I guess there’s always a shape and finish change when you step down from the last set iron to the first specialist wedge, either way.

The Tour PW is about 130 yards for me, so I use a 50 for 115 and a 56 for 100-105. I used to use a 52 but the gapping wasn’t really working for me. YMMV

Great questions and points! Yeah the 919 SW is actually listed as part of HM set, but Mizuno says its for the 919 series. I saw one last week - I thought the other wedges in the shop (T7?) fit the Tour better at address despite the different cavity shape. I'll go back and check it out, grab a pic if I can. SW has been my scalpel from 50 yds to the fringe so the replacement needs to fit just right.

I've been playing TA 845s all along so I never had to think about distance gaps (or matching wedges!) With my loaner 919 set I'm 2 club lengths longer, so glad you brought it up as it needs to be considered.

    I might rather get a set of T7s than a mis-matched set of 919s.
Edit: actually I just saw most Mizzy staffers are playing T series wedges, including Lucas Glover who plays 919 Tour.

The Tour PW is about 130 yards for me, so I use a 50 for 115 and a 56 for 100-105. I used to use a 52 but the gapping wasn’t really working for me. YMMV

I use Vokey's 50, 54, and 58 deg. Koepka does the same with Tours and Vokeys.

T7 looks like a better fit to me - top line might be a hair narrower, but has similar shape and overall feel. 919 wedges seem a bit big and cartoony to me in comparison. Would be nice if the new T20 has a shorter hosel to match the 919 T. I will likely order T20. Here are some pics.
1st should be 919 SW (carbon shaft) vs 919 Tour PW.
Second should be 919T PW vs T7 48 deg (long hosel).
Last should be 919 GW, S18 GW, T7 48 deg.

I'm sad to learn that T7 is discontinued! I just asked dealer to see if they can still order one. The T20 has a lot of bevel on the edges, so the T7 looks like the best fit to me.

I ended up ordering the T20s. It was just easier and cheaper to get the lofts, bounce, and shafts I wanted, particularly since I had $100 credit from my fitting.

T20s on back order and I got lucky! Not many nip T7s around and I paid $90 for both since I had fitting credit! =D The T7 finish and shape really fits the 919 Tour, for those who care about aesthetics.
