Golf in LA

Hi all,

I am a 36 year old avid golfer from Sydney Australia heading to LA next week on business. I have a couple of spare days and am hoping to have a couple of rounds while I am there (Wed 11/14 - Sat 11/17). Staying in Hollywood.

If anyone has any advice or contacts how to get onto some of the better courses it would be appreciated. I have called Lakeside & Wilshire (both very close to hotel) however both are private and unless I am invited by a member I am unable to get on...

Earleir this year I was lucky enough ti play SFGC, Olympic & Cal Club. However LA is proving more difficult to find any contacts at.

Appreciate any assistance. And am more than happy to play with anyone/or as anyones guest.

Cheers

Sorry buddy I don't think a first post from an Australian is going to have any wrx'ers going through their rolodex's to find a member for you. Advice:

    1. Have your hotel inquire, if you are staying at one of the better hotels in LA that could assist.

    2. If you are a member at a club in Sydney have your pro work his network.

    3. If you played up in NC at those exclusive places, who hosted you? Ask your host to beat the bushes for you.

    4. Bid on some charity auctions as both Wilshire and Lakeside pop up on biddingforgood.com occasionally. Lakeside just closed 2 days ago as a matter of fact.

    Good luck.

Go out to Industry Hills and bring your "A" game!

Plenty of fun public courses in LA, but you generally need to drive a while to get to them.

As mentioned previously, you're going to need to find someone to get you on Wilshire CC, LACC, Bel Air, Lakeside, or Sherwood.

In terms of publics, the only ones you might write home about are Rustic Canyon or Trump National, but one is a drive (Simi Valley), and the other is overpriced. There's other decent publics (Industry Hills, Los Verdes, Rancho Park, Encino, Balboa) but nothing great or special.

Get out of El Lay and head to northern Orange County. Coyote Hills in Fullerton and Black Gold in Yoruba Linda. Good Luck!

Agreed, LA doesn't have a strong set of publics for it's size at all. We have lost some great publics, Lost Canyons comes to mind up in Simi which I really enjoyed, Robinson Ranch was 36 and I thought a good pair, now it is Sand Canyon. How is Sand Canyon now?

Better kept courses are either going to be private or in the inland empire area or orange county. If you want to splurge Pelican Hill in newport cant be beat but it will also set you back $300. Public course wise i've heard decent reviews of griffith park where they have 2 courses. LA country club is great for about $100. Hansen Dam is great considering its about $30.
