Playing Presidio Golf Course

First time playing any tips about the course? Should I walk or ride? Thanks

100% ride. I walk all my golf....except st presidio

It's fine to walk. You will have more time to savour the views and its not too demanding. Unless its wet when it might be tricky.

Their carts are weird. If you stray off the beaten path they die. Not a hard walk. A few down and up fairways. Great walk. Goofy ride.

I’ve never had so many plugged/muddy balls in a round as at Presidio.

It’s run down now. It was good as a private course. I never leave the track thinking it was a good idea to play there.

I feel the same way and I'm paying SF resident rates. I personally would ride if you're one who doesn't like to walk up and down drastic changes in elevation.

I have to take the opposite tack. I played there in late August, a few days after aeration, and found the course in great shape. Apparently their fall aeration method is less invasive. Anyway conditions seemed appropriate for the cost and I had a good day on course. Maybe it’s because my local courses are dumps?

As for the OP, Presidio punishes waywardness severely, and small greens make life difficult with the irons. Bring your A-game in the ball-striking department.

I've played there a few times now since moving to SF 3 months ago (live 10mins from the course).

Its more of a ride course I think, as for the comment on weird carts - its simple, from 150 out you cannot be off the paths. Some people still try to ride right up the greens (no idea why...?)

As for the condition, well I can only talk for how it is now and its fair. You get some muddy spots and all that but its fine. If you can drive it straight the course is not hard at all, all the par 5's are two shotters, two of which you wont even need to reach for a long iron.

If you're playing 9 its a great walk, 18 I would ride. They just finished redoing the 17th which looks like a great hole now too.

Value wise... Well it was poor, but now with TPC Harding moving to the g** awful flexible rates making it basically $125 even as a SF resident, its back up to "OK".

These folks have covered it very well. It feels a bit expensive for what it is, and personally I do t care for the layout much at all. That said, it’s a true San Francisco golf experience from weather to cypress trees, and lovely in that regard. Ball striking is at a premium as there’s plenty of trouble seemingly everywhere. Greens can be tricky.

I prefer to walk most places but I always cart Presidio. Just too much elevation change to enjoy walking.

I cannot believe what I am reading. Walking is good for the body and soul and a few undulations will not kill you!! Get some exercise like you are supposed to when you play golf. You will enjoy the round even more and get to appreciate the course. Presidio is hardly a goat track.

I agree, golf is a walking game

Presidio can be walked but I'd recommend a push cart.
