You can play both courses without being a member. You just have to stay overnight somewhere

Been to Prairie Club previously.  It’s a pretty good set-up.

The Dunes was my favorite...more of the traditional sand hills links style. Pines has some tighter holes as some are tree lined.

Horse course is also fun for an after round par 3 game...just take a couple wedges (all holes under 100 yds), putter and beverages of your choice.

Clubhouse is pretty nice and dinners are good there as well.

Enjoy!

I just got back from there.  108 holes in 3 days.  day 1 was sunny and perfectly calm, day 2 was overcast and 20 mph winds, day 3 was cool (52*) and 40mph winds.  The greens on both courses were the fastest I have ever played on.  I am a +1 hdcp and I shot rounds of 85-81-81-88-85-82.  I averaged about 42 putts per round.  I had several 4 putts.  The course themselves we fun, especially the Dunes.  But the greens on the Pines were almost unfair at the speeds the greens were rolling.  I was told by the guys in the shop that the club will close on 10/11 for the season.

For me to get there it is either an 11 hour drive or a one hour flight followed by a 5+ hour drive.  I am glad I went, but doubt I will go back.  The price is good, but too far to travel vs value for me.

exgolfpro - where you from?

It's definitely out in the middle of Nebraska...same deal with Sand Hills and Dismal River.  5-5.5 hour drive from Omaha or Denver.  The drive sucks, but once you are there...there's nothing quite like the isolation and serenity.  The mornings at PC can sometimes be a bit busier, but afternoons thin out a bit.  Dismal and Sand Hills tends to see a little less traffic (private clubs with limited tee time spots).

When all you hear is the wind, the club striking the ball and the sound of the ball landing on the fairway...it's a nice way to disconnect from the rest of the world.

From Southeast Missouri.  Small town called Desloge (pronounced De' loj).  Yes, I couldn't get over the seclusion.  although just about 600yds from the entrance road, you can see the new golf course that is being built called Caprock.  Private club from what I understand.

Our visit to Prairie Club yesterday didn’t quite go as we had hoped. We ran into a two hour frost delay before playing the Pines. Then when we got to the adunes we had 5 hours of daylight remaining. However, after 6 holes unforecasted weather came in so the temp dropped 30 degrees (41 wind chill),winds went from under 5 to over 40mph and it began raining. Prior to the weather coming in we were on a pace above 5 hours then the weather pushed it to a 6+ hour pace. The course was jam packed, which I doubt happens often but it did for us. Between the weather, frost delay and early sunset we only got in 30 holes yesterday while slamming a box lunch between rounds.

As the previous poster said 42 putts is quite attainable there for good golfers.  You have to use all the artist cells in your brain to be successful at PC. It wasn’t uncommon to aim a pitch shot 50 feet away from the flag or hit an approach 20 yards short with a 7i. On the Par 5 18th on the pines I hit my second shot (5i) over the canyon and chose the club that would carry the bunker by 10 yards. It did just that but landed 20 short of the green and a couple firm bounces and I’m rolling the rock for the big bird. You should not fly the ball to the hole and you should not go on the course with a bag too small to hold a full set of outerwear.

Was there the final weekend they were open and played 36 Friday on the Dunes and 36 Saturday on the Pines.  Played the Horse Course each night till we couldn't see the ball anymore.  Temps were in the 80's but winds 20-30 mph.  Unbelievable place and can't wait to go back.  Greens were diabolical but loved every minute of it.
