PGA Champions Tour Q School Finals

Old man Q School is on this week at TPC Tampa Bay. Top 5 get full exemption next season...hardest Tour on the planet to get on.

Lots of household names in the field...

All around good guy Chris Smith,

Equipment rep on the Tour Craig Bowden,

Aussie legends Peter Lonard and Craig Parry,

CPG Omar Uresti and Ken Duke to name a few.

Sorry for the dumb question, I am new to the PGA structure. The old man Q school is for the 50+ champion series?

Top 5 are fully exempt and the next 7 can get into events if space allows. So yes, it's pretty tough to qualify. Champions Tour has a lot of spots awarded based on how you did as a pga player, and usually more sponsors exemptions. Combine that with smaller fields and it's tough to get in if you weren't a successful PGA player.

No indication on the leaderboard as to the qualifying mark but it appears from information in this thread that Ken Duke's final round 66 has gotten him status on the tour.

Gibby Gilbert III - great name and great final round 65.

I did Q Schools for the then Senior PGA Tour 7 times back in the 1990's. Back then, there were 16 spots available - 8 fully exempt and 8 conditional exemptions (in if space available). I earned a full exemption for the 93 season with a 7th place finish in late 92. Finished 58th on money list which did not confer any exempt status for the next year but was exempt into finals. Had to do regionals and finals for the 95 thru 99 seasons. Had a 13th place finish in late 97 which got me into 17 events in 98.

Did Monday 4 spotters and mini tour golf each year. Would get into 3 to 5 events a year. Finished 5th at TPC Tampa Bay (site of this years finals) after 4 spotting in 95.

Q Schools are tough (tougher now with fewer spots). Always made it thru regionals and made 36 hole cut in all the finals except 1.

Called it a "career" after 98 season after I finished about 20th in Q School for the 99 season.

Enjoyed it all, but the travel was tough.
