Of the ones you listed, probably Winged Foot, by far, IMO. I think part of what makes it so recognizable or memorable is that it is sort of an unmistakable image of a fictional object.

Of the remaining ones on your list, I recall what all of them look like except Whispering Pines and Crystal Downs, plus I've never even heard of Kittansett.

Kapalua- The butterfly with pineapple is distinctive and unique to me.

McArthur Golf Club- The milk bottle is just a really cool and simple logo that stands out on a golf bag, shirt, or hat. It’s big, but subtle if that makes sense.

    Bel-air

    Crystal Downs

I think when you talk recognizability there are a couple of factors at play:

    (1) is it unique? IMHO this eliminates Shinnecock, Seminole, and the 10,000 other clubs with a Native American profile image as its logo.

    (2) does it have national recognition? This eliminates the Kittansetts et. al. of the world.

    I'd nominate:

    Merion - the wicker basket will be instantly recognizable as long as a major has been played there in the last 10 years;

    Whistling Straits

    Winged Foot

    Olympic Club

    Baltusrol

    Bay Hill

    NGLA

    Maidstone

    Fishers Island

I agree with Raynor's logic and for this reason I think it has to be Oakmont. It is has the distinct Squirrel that looks different from every other logo and it hosts a US Open once a decade so it is in front of the public pretty regularly. I'm a pretty dedicated golfer and I can't think of what the logo is for many of the courses listed in this thread, but Oakmont stands out to me.

Interestingly enough the squirrel isn't even Oakmonts main logo.

It’s also basically identical to the country club’s squirrel logo.

Which is also not their main logo...

Merion, Olympic, bandon. Maybe Olympic or bandon for me because I'm in nor cal and everyone golf related seems to be wearing the Olympic o or bandon penguin at some point.

I think most people don’t know what the ANGC logo looks like. They do know the Masters Tournament logo which is not the club’s logo.

Well it doesn't have the word "Masters" on it, that's for sure, but other than that it's the same and everyone who knows the Masters logo would equate the ANGC logo with the club instantly.

Oakmont for me, but that's only because my first impressions of golf tournaments were there for the US Am in 2003 and the US Open in 08. I think a lot of it has to deal with what courses are close to you. I mean the Congressional Logo is super recognizable to me but that's because its the most brand name club around the DC area.

Torrey Pines could/should be in the conversation, considering the logo includes and is built off of the club's name.

The trump course logos collectively are pretty unmistakable although maybe not super distinguishable between them.

Congressional is another easy one to identify when you see it.

Lastly, TPC Sawgrass - although I get the counterpoint that the whole TPC network shares the key graphic

The Cypress Point logo is very Torrey Pinesish .. I don't think CP was listed above

Agree on the TPC logo being linked to Sawgrass. That's how I see it as well.

Saw the topic and immediately thought Winged Foot.
  • raynorfan1raynorfan1 Members Posts: 3,541 ✭✭
There's another question of what's recognizable because the viewer actually knows it and what's recognizable because the logo itself is so descriptive.

Winged Foot, for example, is so descriptive that any idiot could guess what club it belongs to. Same with Congressional, Burning Tree, etc.

The Oakmont squirrel, or Merion wicker basket, on the other hand, are much harder to guess.

Excluding Augusta. Winged Foot, Olympic Club, and LACC in that order. I think MPCC has a really cool logo, but since it's new, it isn't as recognizable.

Although I could be biased since I'm from California
