Anyone still Gaming Ben Hogan PTX’s?

Hoping to find some reviews of people who played them for an extended period of time. I had the FT Worth’s and loved them just don’t get out enough for blades. I am currently playing Apex CF16’s but have trouble with distance control and hoping for a more predictable iron. Also any address comparison pics would be awesome!

PTx in the bag for 32 months now. Quite happy. Wonderful clubs.

I do use ping glide 2 wedges from 46 down because I like more traditional soles and bounce angles in my wedges.

Since I’ve been playing the PTx The WRX club Ho in me has owned and tried:

Ping E1

Ping S55

Ping answer forged

Ping Iblade

Cally Apex

Cally Apex CF16

Titleist AP2 714

PXG 0311t Gen 1

None could kick the PTx out of the bag. I still drop into the golf shop every few months but not much interests me. The PTx are just too good.

I will probably give the TM p760 a go at some point. I like the head size and shape and the progressive offset. Not crazy about the look of the back, but you don’t hit with the back. I also like the black Cobra forged tech. Might snag a set of those to try as well but I think anything I try will just essentially be a demo for a couple of months.

I actually have a second identical set of PTx in the basement I’ve been using to test Graphite shafts. My arthritis is becoming an issue but I can’t find a graphite I like. 8 sets of high end graphite shafts and counting, I do have 125 Protos in my wedges but it’s a compromise. They spin a bit more than I want but feel awesome.

PXG gen 1 0311t and PTx. 9 irons. The heel to toe length and offset is nearly identical. They aren’t lined up exactly right in the pic.

The PTx have progressive size and offset. It’s pretty subtle but I like having a touch bigger blade length and more offset on the longer irons. I find it a confidence booster. The top line on the PTx also gets “straighter” as the you go to the longer clubs.

I am going to order the Ben Hogan PTX next week. On your recommendation. Thank you. I am 52 years old in this will probably be my last big boy set.

Nice. I hope you like them. I genuinely love them.

As far as “players cavity backs” go I 100% believe they are as good or better than anything out there.. Nice shape, look, sound, feel. The V sole gives nice turf interaction. They resist digging. It’s a nice bonus that they are very affordable too. I have mine at fairly “traditional” lofts and they are very consistent for distance. 9 is at 42 degrees and they go down in 4 degree increments from there.

At $770 bucks new I’m surprised they don’t have a legion of devotees on this site. Certainly one of the best deals in golf.

I played them for a year and had a really hard time with the recoil shafts. Great heads though. Picked up the blacks as well recently and hope to stick with them for a while.

PING Rapture V2 with BB
PING Crossover - 3
PING Eye 2 + Becu 3-W with DG AMT S300
PING Eye 2 XG Sand and Lob wedges
PING Chipo!

Been using them all year after being fortunate enough to have won them on this site. I reshafted them with the C Taper Lites I’m using now, and it’s a great combo. They’re very forgiving, feel awesome, and are exceedingly consistent. I can’t see switching to anything else any time soon

What are the PTX irons comparable to? AP2, I210?

They’re almost identical in size and shape to the Srixon z7 series

Callaway Mavrik SubZero 9* Fujikura Motore Speeder VC7.2 Tour Spec X

Taylormade V-Steel 15* Aldila Tour Blue 75TX

Titleist 913 19* Diamana 82hy S
Srixon ZX4 MKII 4i Modus 105s

Srixon ZX5 MKII 5-P Modus 105s

TM MG 50/54 Project X 6.5 8i

TM Tiger Grind 60* TI s400

TM Rossa Tourismo agsi+

Did you find the Ft Worth much less forgiving than the PTx? It just looks and sounds so damn good...

I have to say I'm intrigued by them - learned on a set of old BH Directors. Not sure if I have the game for the Ft Worth but definitely interested in a set

Taking a real good look at the PTx. Not sure how much good the trial program would do me right now, it's been below freezing for most of the past week and not looking much better anytime soon.

How long does processing/shipping normally take for Hogan clubs?

Me, personally, I just didn’t see a major forgiveness difference between the Ft. Worth and the PTX. The 4-6 of the PTX, yes because of the weighting and being hollow. But, only in ease of getting it airborne. You don’t have to swing as fast. The 7-pw, no. The feel of the ft worth is amazing. Don’t be afraid of the ft. Worth, it’s easier to hit than you think and just makes you happy. Truth be told, after my fitting coming up, I will probably have a 19* 23* 27* VKTR hybrid in my bag anyway. And depending on what the data I get from my 31*(6I) I might get a Ft. Worth Hi iron here too!

Usually, 2 weeks! There are two good sets of PTXs on Facebook marketplace right now. In Philadelphia, a mint set of Mid launch with a 50* & 54* TK wedge only played twice maybe for $375. Then, in Pittsburgh, a guy has a brand new set of high launch PTXs for $450-475ish. Both have the KBS Tour V shafts.

I gave $375 for my set of new/ never used Ft. Worths. It was a deal I couldn’t pass up!

  • 2 weeks later...

Pulled the trigger on a 21* to 45* set after getting pretty good trade in value with Hogan on some of my backups. Would have liked better shaft/grip options, but I'm kind of going back to my roots with this set, so DG's were just fine for me, and I can re-grip easily enough. Took a bit of a gamble on going a half inch over standard, never had irons anything but standard length, so I'm hoping this might help my abundant toe-strikes become less abundant. Through one range session, it definitely has, but time will tell on that.

The clubs are beautiful. I learned on a 70's set of Hogan Apex irons when I was a teenager, so the distinct Hogan shape was a familiar sight. They're certainly a bit chunkier than blades, but I've been playing CB's most of my adult life, so no glaring differences from past sets. They have a bit more offset than my last set, but it's barely, if at all, noticeable.

Feel was very good, center strikes were pure, mishit feedback was there. The shorter irons were easy to knockdown, and the long irons were easy to elevate. I can't wait to get some decent weather and put them to the test on the course.
