Conflicting fittings...

Recommended Posts

I posted this question under "Rogue vs XR OS" forum I started as well, but I wanted to separate it out for a more focused topic as well...

I'm in a real dilemma... I've been fitted by two different fitters and got two different irons results... one (Golf Galaxy) put me in Rogue X w Recoil 460 S-flex, and one (Club Champion) put me in Rogue w graphite R-flex... what's going on here? ....yes, the Champion was more thorough, but the Galaxy fitter seemed very confident in his opinion (well, they both seemed confident). Is Champion just trying to sell me their more expensive shafts? Or... like I say, what?

Could it be that I was different on different days of fitting, like less flexible body one day compared to the next or something?

Should I wait and get a third opinion, or get a third opinion now, or what? Or let them both know of the conflict and ask for a re-fit?

I'm scared to commit one way or another, and I've wasted money on clubs due to bad advice before, so I'm a bit gun shy...

If you have already started one thread, now this one...I think that you should start a third.

What do your fitting numbers show, and which felt the better to you?

FWIW - if you are older (like, over 55) I would tend to go with the regular flex shafts, as you will find them more consistent through the round.

The dilemma we face in buying equipment......

Both the shafts mentioned, the Recoil and the Synergy(stock), are no cost from Callaway. Perhaps CC thought you need the stronger lofts on the Rogue X because you flip the club before impact. I've fit people into both for entirely different reasons and you will note below, I use the Recoils.

Club Champion Custom Callaway AI Smoke 11*, Aldila Ascent 40 Gram, A Flex

Srixon F45 4-wood, 17*, Kuro Kage 606 S
TXG Custom  SIM Max 7-wood, Accra FX 140 2.0 M2

TXG Custom Cobra Tech 5-hybrid, KBS TGI 75 R
TXG Custom PXG 0211 6-pw, 1* upright, Recoil E460 R
PXG 0211 GW, 50*, (new version), UST Recoil Dart R
TXG Custom Cleveland CBX 54*, Tour Issue DG Spinner 115

Ping Glide 4.0 58*, Nippon 115
TXG Custom Cobra Nova, KBS CT Tour Shaft

Years back I had a similar outcome and dilemma. Three fitters fitted me based on inside specs and bias. They looked at specific issues like my age (45) and assumed from there; never asking about my 2-4 handicap or that I was playing in regional tournaments. For that reason, I didn't use those fitters.

I was smart enough to know a dramatic difference between their opinions meant I shouldn't use any of them, and I didn't "need" to make a decision.

Thankfully sometime later I was introduced to a tour fitter that without bias first asked the right questions about my game intentions, then handicap. He also learned I was self-taught and then suggested Rifle 6.5. It turned out those "X" shafts worked with my fast tempo and transition. He figured out when I was on the golf course my demeanor was different, as well as my swing speed and hands at impact were faster. :beach:
