Need the weather here to break soon!

I'm working on a new set of irons as we speak. Thanks winter.

Here in Omaha we’re not supposed to see a day above freezing until March 15 at least, and then only barely. It’s driving me nuts. I’m trying to do the normal stuff (regrips, shoes, polos) but I’m slowly working towards my bag. I actually replaced the only putter I’ve had for the last 20 years just recently (although I did so in style I think). If I start looking at irons I’m just gonna book a trip to AZ and get on a course.

The winter here in Detroit has “made” me: (most recent first)

    Join a Club

    Buy an Arm-Lock putter

    6-Dozen golf balls

New shoes(the old ones were bad luck)

    New head covers

I am sure by the end of this winter I will have a new Driver and new wedges.

Man, sure do not miss northern Michigan winters. Grew up 50 miles south of the bridge, 250 miles or so north of Detroit, now in East Texas I've been probably averaging at least 18 holes a week over the winter this year, and some range time thrown in. This has been great as the last several years I have nursed injuries over the winter and basically took close to my old "winter break" from golf, and didn't seem to get back to a normal game until mid-summer.

In Michigan. golf season usually ended mid-late October, didn't really start again until the earliest late/March or usually mid-April. It was a bit easier getting the game in shape when I was younger, but now, not hitting a ball for a month or two really sets me back. But as I say that, our low here today and tomorrow is in the mid-20s, but I did get out on Saturday before the real cold, had a solid over over 73....

Like many others, I need the Chicago weather to warm up so I can get away from all the eBay boxes and try out some of the new to me clubs.

It's time for "hope over experience" and my Annual Rite of Spring Lottery - which new club will be THE ONE to make all the difference.

Plan on using a Ping minimalist bag this season (Ping G30 driver, 3 and 5 hybrid, i20 7,9,GW, Glide 56 and an old 33" Kushin putter). Hopefully, I can schedule some simulator time to work on the rust before the course warms up a little.
Just an older guy with 7 or 8 clubs and a MacKenzie Walker bag

Here is Philly I've been stocking up on clubs. Currently have 16 clubs in my bag, 15 are new:

    Ping g400 max driver

    Titleist 2 hybrid

    Srixon u65 2 iron

    Srixon u65 3 iron

    Callaway 4-aw irons

    Cleveland 54 degree wedge

    Cleveland 60 degree wedge

    Odyssey putter

Only hold out from last season is my 3 wood and that probably won't even be in the bag once I slim it down to 14 clubs.

Oh, and I've also gone through 4 different driver shafts and reshafted the srixon u65's and regripped every club too.

Our course is so wet, that I played two holes today, and quit. I did find a personalized ball that said, " I'm not lost. I'm just hiding from Brian"

I hear your spontaneity when it comes to curing the winter blues. Most of us here suffer the same way. What I have done to cure my own issue of buying away the golf blues is just putting the money I would have spent into a separate account and treat myself to some high end golf courses throughout the season that I normally wouldn't play. Last year, I played Kapalua twice, King Kamehameha while in Hawaii, and in Scottsdale I played Troon North Pinnacle, and several other courses. It used to sting a bit paying $250+ for a golf round, but that money was easily spent on ho'ing equipment throughout the year.

So rather than having equipment that I probably wouldn't even put in play at the end of the process, I have enjoyed the experience of playing some courses that I wouldn't normally have.

It also helps that I've built a bag of some nice gear that any new purchase would be deemed a lateral move, or a step down so maybe that's why I haven't bought anything last season and this off-season. Just find a way to put that money away to be enjoyed later and you too, shall be cured of the WRX Ho disease.

All i've purchased so far is a hybrid that I probably won't ever game, but i've spent half the day on the Miura website.

I have absolutely no business even looking at those irons.

I need to start playing the sim again and stop thinking about what's in the bag.

    Sweet Lord.

Since that post, i've purchased four sets of irons.

    It's been an expensive winter.
