$36.19 to ship a putter from Virginia to Indiana?

I sold a club on the classifieds and ups charged me $36.19 to ship a club that's really not far away from Virginia to Indiana. With the basic $100 insurance and the slowest shipping ground residential. Did I get ripped off? Almost not worth selling clubs if I'm almost paying 40 bucks to ship a club using my own box and shipping label. What gives?

USPS, print & box yourself. Should be about $10-12 max for 1-2 zone shipments.

just did a quick check... Priority 2-day mail from 22904 (central VA) to 46011 (random zip in Indiana), 40x6x6, 3 lbs. Cost is $10.15.

Also, did you go to a UPS store? I'm pretty sure they raise rates around holidays

It was just like a 4x4x46 box. Enough to fit a few putters say. Just a regular club box. Ups got me good

Its the 46" length that cost you. I shipped an Orange Whip and if it were 1-2" shorter it wouldve cost 1/3 of the price to ship it. Cant remember what length jacked the price up but i want to say it was like 42-43". Least thats my experience with it im sure some of the guys on here know better ways around it. Till i figure it out i gave up trying to sell driver shafts. Got about 12 sitting in the basement that arent worth fooling with bc it would cost >1/2 what they worth just to ship.

Lol,use the shipping calculator so you know going in. When I see #'s like this it's typically due to box size ballooning the rate.

Never ever shop UPS unless you have to. It will always be your most expensive option.

Not necessarily true. On long distance shipments, opposite coasts for example, fedex home delivery is often cheaper than usps, relative to the dimensional sizing of the package. Takes a couple extra days but most people don’t mind.
