Is golf your most expensive hobby?

Is golf your most expensive hobby? Im really curious to see what guys have to say about this. For me it certainly is my favorite hobby. I work in the business and enjoy what I do very much. I spend my fair share still on greens fees, new shafts, grips and the likes. I also know guys that play every weekend and only use golf balls they find and haven’t bought a single new club in 10 years. They’d rather spend their money on their shoes, boats, watches, cars, guitars etc.

Nope. The boat is and it aint even close.

Yes it is, though I don't really have other hobbies right now beyond jogging and the odd softball league. Kids will do that!

It's my most expensive hobby, but like said above with younger kids I don't really have time for a second hobby.

Golf is certainly a nice indulgence. But it's not too bad on the spectrum of expensive hobbies.

I play guitar in a performing rock band. My music stuff is just as expensive but I don't ho around as much.

We own a 1965 Corvette in near mint condition, but I wouldn't call it a hobby - we don't show it, we just drive it.

Triathlons were more expensive. $12,000 bicycles, $500 wetsuits, $200 running shoes, $300 cycling shoes and we haven't even paid to enter a race, or the hotel for the over night stays, or all the food you needed during 8 how workouts and 12 hour races.

I had 8 bicycles setup for racing and training. The maintenance on the bikes was very expensive and I did it all myself.

Golf can't hold a candle to all that.

Oh ya, I forgot about my classic cars.....

I own an old British sports car. So no, golf is not my most expensive hobby. I learned club building/making just as a distraction from the needs of the emerald green beast.

Probably. I drive old cars, don't care about fashion/watches, etc. Hunting adds up, between licenses, decoys, waders, etc, but golf usually comes in higher at the end of the day.

Honestly though, I pay more in cable/internet/cell service than golf.

Youth sports was high up there for a while but now it’s just one left in University and no more youth sports. So yes, golf is my only hobby now.

Golf is part of life, not just a hobby, I spend a lot on it from club dues and all that goes with it to regular trips, perhaps not so much on equipment.

Don't smoke (USD$25 a packet out here), don't have a boat, don't travel to ski, don't spend money on cars/watches, don't have a holiday house.

So golf is easily manageable because its prioritised.

Without a shadow of a doubt. I don't even want to sit and add together how much membership fees, green fees, equipment and apparel spends would be at the end of each year...

It is now but I had a real geeky hobby that was also super expensive and time consuming. And even playing the game associated with said hobby had similar concerns; rules issues, slow play (4+ hrs per game), irritating opponents, very expensive niche equipment. I still get the tug to go back and check it out any time I see the stuff though. Its something I will definitely pick back up when the girls leave the house.

Skiing adds up quickly, especially with three season passes plus the driving back and forth.

I used to have 3 hobbies.

Bowling, poker and golf. Bowling and poker were expensive but I could make $ back on good days. When we had a kid i gave them both up for golf which is more expensive and i have no real way of making any $.

I prefer being outdoors.

I buy lots of different golf things ... more transactions so to speak ... but more is spent on watches and my car and traveling ... but maybe the most is the two girls in university !

No. Bass fishing is much more expensive between the boat, baits and high end rods and reels it isn't even close.

Yeah, my daughter plays on a traveling soccer team that has league and tournament games all over the country. Watching her is my most expensive hobby.

This is my life. Wife and daughter have horses. Daughter now living out of the house so we’re down to two hay-burners. Believe me when I say it’s not like owning a dog. Horses are in a league of their own in the expense department.

On the plus side, I never get any grief about golf expenses.

Motorcycle hobby costs more theoretically.....but it is a better adrenaline bump than a good hole per se'.

Same here. Golf pales in comparison to horses!

It’s the only hobby.

I would call it a “lifestyle” more than a hobby.

For example...my wife has introduced me before as “ my husband ? heʻs played golf for 30 years, the rest of it he just wasted”

...... ouch. lol

Mountain biking and archery. Like golf, both can be very very expensive, or done on the budget. For me all three hobbies are about the same cost...
