Custom Scotty on a Budget!......well the custom part :)

This was a stock red Studio Select 20 hours ago
I bought this for my son 20 hours ago. Everything he has, bag, headcovers, clothes etc. is lime or flo green. He wanted a studio seclect, but we dont have the time to send it back to Scotty to make it look like he wants it and still get to use it for upcoming tournaments. I stripped and removed all of the red and did a lime green, black & white paint fill. I also bought a dancing Cameron black/white grip with the putter and paint filled it as well.

A lime green putter doesnt look right in a silver and red headcover, so out comes my secret stitch dye utensil and wahla!.........the old red/silver cover now matches the putter. TOTAL

COST OF THE CUSTOM WORK.........
3 vials Tamiya Xacrylic paints--------$6
1 fine needle dispenser---------------$2
My super secret thread dye device--$1
Dancing Cameron Grip---------------$15
$25

Wow, amazing work, great job! You can tell you put a lot of patience and heart into it, turned out very well (much better then my attempts in the past). I'm sure your son will love it, and knowing you did all that work for him, will mean so much more to him.

ย

Would you happen to have a link/picture of the needle dispenser and the paint you used? I can't seem to find a suitable paint and a suitable method for getting in without getting slop everywhere else.

I will post some pics tomorrow of the dispensers that I use for paint fill. It is really the best way to paint fill. I used the same acrylic black on the cirlcles of the headcover as well. To answer the question on sweating....NO the paint on the grip is the same as the manufacturer uses. It is an acrylic enamel that will not bleed or fade. The green on the headcover is Flo Green Sharpie. We have customized our caps embroidery for years with sharpie. It too is permanent and will not bleed and can even be washed. Steady hand and patience is all you need.

Test using sharpie on an old cap embroidery. the stitching needs to be light in color, white or silver accept colors the best. I have even done piping and embroidery on golf bags with sharpie. You can not tell that it is not factory.

ย

Here are pics of Stratton's bag. It was a standard Callaway black/silver bag I bought for $75 on ebay that had just a company name embroidered on the side. I removed that embroidery with an exacto and put my sons initial logo on the side. I then used a sharpie and completely changed the look of the bag. Unfortunately, these pictures don't do it justice. It is bright green and looks cool. Never underestimate what you can do with a Sharpie! :russian_roulette:

The first two pics are pics of the actual bag in the listing on ebay:

Yes,

I still have the original red grip that came on the Select. You also dont have to use Sharpie micro's. That is just the first pic I came across when I google'd looking for a sharpie pic. I use big chisel point sharpies as well as the fine points in tight areas. Any color works well if you are coloring lighter colored material. For paint fill, I use a water based acrylic model paint that you get at a hobby or model shop. I use acetone to wipe any excess from overfill. With the needle dispenser, you dont get alot of overfill. On some areas, I paintfill and dont even need to go back and wipe the surface.

ย

Here is the good paint fill technique:

ย

Use a fine needle aplicator to fill the engraved lettering.

ย

Use a business card or your finger to lightly scrape off excess just after filling

ย

Let the paint set for 5 min

ย

Dampen a paper towel edge with acetone or fingernail polish remover (clear)

ย

Lightly stroke across the top with single layer of paper towel around you forefinger

(dont bucnh up the paper towel, you want it to be a flat surface so that you ONLY wipe the top and not down into the paint fill)

ย

Repeat if necessary.

Here is a pic of one of the needle aplicators that I use for paint fill. You can get the needle in many diameters. I like the smallest to get into small fills and you can fill without even having to wipe the surface. You can control the paint flow and not get any out of the "groove" These are actually glue applicators you find at a model shop, or hobby store that sells modeling equipment. The applicator bottle and needle cost $2 here in austin. You save the paint right in the bottle. Remove the needle top, rinse and insert the needle cleaning wire.

The applicators are actually for glueing acrylic plexiglas, glueing models, and other fine target applications. These are made by a company called A-West in Georgia Here is a pic of the info on the bottles

For the person earlier who asked about paint--you can use just about any paint you would find in a hobby store for painting model airplanes or cars and the like. I prefer Testors enamel. They make just about every color you could imagine. I am a big fan of the Blue Metallic Flake and Red Metallic Flake myself.

Mac,

Even the lime acrylic paint wont cover the red enough. It is tough to get much of any color on a darker thread like red or anything that is not a very light shade. Use acrylic paint on the dots instead of the black sharpie too. It covers much better and black sharpie leaves a brownish tint. I used my acrylic paint fill with the applicator bottle and it worked like a charm. I then used the sharpie to do the external ring. Believe it or not, it actually looks better in person opposed to these pictures.
