718 ap2 or jpx 919 tour

Looking for advice on what set of irons to order I’m a + handicap but my iron play is by far the worst part of my game. Have had the ap2 in the past but really like the look and feel of the jpx’s.

I know the ap2 will probably be more forgiving but just looking to see if anyone else chose between these 2 and what you ended up with.

Thanks!!

What I have seen some better players do with Mizuno is order a mixed set. In your case the 919 Forged in the longer irons and the Tours in the shorter irons. If you can narrow down which of your irons is your issue - long, mid, or short, this might help provide some feedback for you. A good fitter can also make sure that you gaps are in line with a mixed set of Mizuno's.

That makes sense I’ll take a look at that thanks a lot

I built a blended 919 forged (4-6) and 919 tour (7-PW) and really like the irons. You'll want to pay attention to the lofts as the forged are much stronger lofted than the tours. When I built my set, I had the forged bent weak and the tours bent strong to ensure appropriate distance gapping. I can't speak for the AP2's but I can tell you the 919's, especially the tours, seem to be the best irons they have built and I have ever hit. I've played Mizuno's for over 20 years, nothing else, and have seen the irons go from pure butter feel (think T-zoid Pros) which left a bit of distance loss to what I believe was a "too firm" feel in the JPX 900 forged as Mizuno was trying to change the reputation of the irons as feel irons. My point here is the 919's hit the sweet spot in between of being distance iron but preserving a soft feel.

Another thing, you can specify to some degree the swingweights through Mizuno for no additional charge. Mizuno lengthened the 919's .25 inches per club. When I received mine .25 short (old Mizuno lengths), I found the swingweights to feel very light and had Mizuno adjust and add some weight to the hozel which has worked well so far.

Guessing that you can't go wrong with either, good luck. I'm a 3 index just to offer some perspective.

919T on price and feel for me. AP2 are a bit 'clicky' for me, where the 919Ts are softer and approx. $400 cheaper. 919Ts remind me of the MP5s when they came out, more forgiving than they look. ;)

I had the 919 tours. Sold them a week later. I prefer the ap2, but ultimately went with the TMB. I’m actually thinking about getting a set of ap2 this spring.

For me, the turf interaction was better on ap2. They were both soft. I felt the ap2 was more forgiving.

I could tell you how awesome I think the 919 T's are, but, it would best suit you to demo both models on course if you can.

I hit these two clubs last week on back to back days at some demo days. Mizuno easily for me. I have hit the AP2s a few times and never got along with them. Don't like the sound either. I may have been having a good swing day when i hit the mizunos because i hit the 919t very well, along with the mmc, sc, and the mb. Hitting the last two models more just because it was a demo day as I'd never buy them for my game. The mizunos had a shaft that i really like, nippon 950. Not sure what was in the AP2s, maybe amts. Only got to hit off mates though. Either way, the mmc and 919f/t are at the top of my list come February, along with the new srixons.

Long time AP2 player (08, 710,712,714). Switched when the JPX900 Tour came out and never looked back. Ended up with a blended set of Forged and Tour for best of both worlds. I would say the AP2 is in between 900 Forged and Tour in terms of forgiveness but maybe a bit closer to Tour. IMHO they both feel much better than the more clickier AP2 but I know others that prefer the harder Titleist feel so YMMV...

My son ( Who is a + handicap and much better than me) switched from 716 AP2 to MP18 SC and now just went to a JPX 919 Forged/Tour setup. He much prefers the Tour for the looks and feel. For me the the 919 Tour is a little more foregiving than the 900 Tour. 919 vs 900 Forged is a wash for me.

The AP2 are great irons and plenty foregiving - at the end of the day the deciding factor will probably be your preferences on cosmetics and feel.

do a blended Titleist set and call it a day. The 718 line is superb and that goes for every single model.

I went mp18 mmc 3i and 919 tours 4-pw and couldn't be happier. The longer irons are actually very easy to hit. I only grabbed the mmc for a little more trajectory control.

Curious as to what others think between these two as far as size of these irons go. Looking at them side by side to my eye the JPX 919 tour seems to have a slightly longer blade length (at least the length of the grooves) and the top line is a slight thicker in the JPX.

I recently ordered Mizuno MP18-SC after 6 years of 714 AP2. Didn’t love them, sold them, and ended up with 718 AP2. If irons are the worst part of your game, definitely go 718 AP2. They are so good. Best of both worlds in forgiveness/playability.

Does anyone know the blade lengths for these two irons? Mizuno has theirs listed but I can't find Titleist. Curious to see which is the longer blade because to my eye the tours have a slightly longer blade.

Taken from the ‘other site’ last year - sure 718 are smaller than 716. 919s not listed but you should get an idea comparing to MP18s

He’s owned gobs of Mizuno gear over the desperate decades so the JPX is going to be a letdown in terms of expected feel, and the 718 ap2 look pretty cool and are a little smaller head and more forgiving so he’d go that way, everything else being the same.

There are also guys using Hot Metal Pros for long irons along other Mizuno irons. They have less offset than the 919 Forged (919T and HMP are almost identical).

I would blend the 919 Forged and Tours. I stay away from low offset in long irons because I will miss right all day. A little more offset gives me the baby draw I seek.
