TaylorMade r7

I think the R7 has set the benchmark for drivers. The driver is the most popular on tour by a large margin. The adjustability feature really works if you have the swing for it. The retail R7 and HT are easier to hit than the TP but the TP has better shafts available stock. I still think it's the most significant driver introduced in the last two years. The trickle down of the technology to the rest of TM's line is further evidence.

I was at an Asian Tour event recently and 7 out of 10 had the R7 TP in their bags.

I think it is a great driver. It goes forever if you hit it right but if you miss it , it is very punishing. That is why I have the 580xd in my bag. I am currently experimenting with the comp and the r5. Both of those are way more forgiving than the r7. I do love the way the r7 looks at address though.

I hate my R7, I prefer to use my 580XD if I am playing TM. I think it is far longer and much better feel.

It really comes down to the shaft. If the shaft is fitted to your swing properly, the r7 is illegally long IMHO. It is that good. You have to generate enough club head speed and have the right shaft to be able to take advantage of the low spin technology. If so, it does go forever.

For what it's worth...it's the best driver I have ever hit.

I think it is a pretty good driver, but only in certain weight configurations. The only "settings" that felt solid to me were when it was set up for a neutral, lower ballflight or when it was set up for the most draw (never tried the fade configurations). I could not stand the feel and sound with the weights in any other position.

Thanks for the replies guys! I really appreciate it. The first few months after I bought it, I was struggling to hit it well and I was putting a weak little fade on it and looked like a lazy rainbow. I think it took me a while to get used to it. The past month I've been hitting it flush and producing a piercing ball flight. Today, I averaged 250 metres with it. I think it just takes a while to get used to. Funny thing is, I haven't actually changed any screws around! I just love to hit it straight and find it's better than the other TM's I've tried.

the r7 seems to be becoming outdated and overused too. There are many better replacements imho, but I think it was a major breakthrough due to the movable weights and got alot of hype due to that

i never liked the r7 but you cant say anything bad about the technology. The weights were a great idea and can really help. I just think now the other top OEM have made drivers as good or better then the r7.

I had a R7 TP with 757 and was disappointed with it but I tried the ht with a prolite 35 and was very impressed,I changed the TP to a 580xd tp with 26:3 and it was a great improvement,so to put in order of preference it would go,
