Real deal or fake as can be?

Bought some golf pride mcc off a guy. Said they were for a customer build and the guy decided to use a different color. Upon further inspection when they came in today I just have some suspicions about them. Hopefully you guys can help me out. Are these real or fake?1de0050bc58d87771b2eb0470442801a.jpgc43589f31a66b627b380a963b07c3668.jpgec1c8f75d05f6ba9b8c1dc27d870e3d1.jpgc861406dcacd489e95b9b30fcd2a3aae.jpga25df3f6572457553a33eefa783bf0f9.jpgb441abe3f46fa28bc055c0f668d1810d.jpg

i'm going with fake. the obvious is the butt end. the font on the butt end isn't as "sharp" so to say like the real ones.

*the photos here are about 6yrs old but it still stands. the fakes more than likely improved over the years but the butt end is what seals the deal for me.

Did you pay the real price or the fake price? Does it matter if they get the job done. It's not a Rolex watch.

The real ones and the fake ones are usually made in the same Asian facility.

They were bought from a guy off eBay. He had a lot of gold items for sale. Including iron shaft sets, drivers etc. the butt end in person is concave.

fake ones deteriorate and lose tackiness a lot quicker. i swore they were the same for a while until my last batch. they were pretty bad

I thought I have is why would you waste time buying them from someone else when you can get them at the golf store and know they are real, if it means that much to you. How much money can a person save on grips?

I don’t have any golf stores close to me. Always have bought off eBay. Never had an issue. Not really a big deal. Just always looking for a good deal. Didn’t really pay much less than from retail store. So figured they were real. They feel pretty good. We will see how it goes

After seeing all the fakes on ebay, grips are something I would never purchase there. It's just not worth saving the $5.

If they are fake, be happy because it is only a small purchase. A good lesson can be learned from buying things on eBay that seemed like a good deal. Most likely there's a negative reason the price is so low.

If they are fake there pretty good fake ones and not obvious

I've had 2 lots of fake mc's from eBay and there usually pretty obvious, lines don't line up all the way round, golf pride writing doesn't look right, and fakes feel softer, but you would need a genuine grip to compare.

EBay just isn't worth it for buying grips unless you find a trusted seller

I'm going to say that the grey ones are real and the white ones are fake. The "pores" on the white ones look too big and not uniform. Also, the little "overspill" of rubber coming out of the vent hole on the butt end looks like cheap, lax, quality control.

I can't say from first hand experience but I've always heard/read that the fake MCC's have an oily/petroleum like smell.

Anyway, again...my take is the greys are real and the whiteouts are fake.

These honestly smell like rubber. Not string chemicals like I’ve read. They feel good. I change grips monthly anyway to keep things interesting lol

It matters because the seller told him they were real and he paid for real.

I googled the sku# or model number and nothing came up. You could try to scan the barcode with a smartphone, but that could be counterfeited also??? It isnt a common color for the mmc and i havent realy seen many or any that i know are real like them. Im leaning towards fake. Ebay sellers selling the fakes usually have a bunch of dif colors that arent even on tje gp website and that prob appeals to buyers??? Good luck! Would be interested in hearing how it turns out?

Actually i have seen the platinum and red, but not the white/red whiteout. I put one on my sons driver a few weeks ago and came from a local pro shop. They very well could both be legit!!!!
  • toctoc Members Posts: 2,773 ✭✭
I’m gonna go with both of them are fake!

I’ve never understood the fake grip thing. As someone else said, they’re the same price in pretty much every shop so when you find a crazy cheap price online it’s probably because they’re bogus.

The pronounced seam running down the side is a givaway that they are fake. You only have to look at the very first picture and imho its obvious.

If they are less than $9 you can almost guarentee they are fake. There is very little margin on a golfpride grip at the msrp of around $10

Buying on eBay to save a couple bucks is a foolish thing to do. Just go online and order from a reputable store. It's that simple. It's just grips for crying out loud. This thread makes a big issue out of nothing.
