Your Personal Driver History

I was reading over posts of people’s favorite drivers, least favorite, etc, and got me to thinking about all the drivers I’ve ever had as best I can remember. My list is relatively short, and includes only clubs that were primary gamers, ie in the bag for at least 3 months, starting at age 10:

Spalding persimmons

Cougar (nondescript small head)

Callaway BB Warbird 12°

Nondescript non-brand club, 460cc at least

Callaway X 10.5

Taylormade R580 9.5

Cleveland Hibore 10.5

Callaway ft-9 8.5

Titleist 907D2 9.5

Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 9°

I know that’s not a lot, but I’m sure some of you out there have gamed many, many different big dawgs. Show us how you got to the club you’re hitting today (as best you can remember)
Golfing in Finland
Golfing in USA
Driver: Titleist 908 D2 (9.5)
Callaway Big Bertha Alpha (2014, 9.5)
3 wood: Cleveland hi-Bore (15)
Adams Tightlies Tour 14.5
2hi: Callaway BB Diablo (18)
Irons 3-E Hogan Apex Edge Pro/Apex 4 +5/8"
2-E Hogan Apex '99, Apex 4 +1"
Wedges: Titleist 5612 and Iron Nelson prototype 59°
Macgregor VIP black 52 56, Stan Thompson stainless
Putter: Macgregor Autograph Jackie Pung

From the Age of 10 to now (22):

    1. Paragon Driver - I can't remember the name of the model, but I had a box set of Paragon junior clubs to start my golfing journey.

    2. TaylorMade Tour Burner 8.5° - Got this one as a hand-me-down from a friend. Boy I had no issue playing that club. I was probably 13 years old. Wayy to much club for me back then.

    3. Callaway Diablo Octane Black 9.5° - One of the drivers made in collaboration with Lamborghini. Hit this one pretty well. Naturally, it didn't last long.

    4. Adams Fast 12 LS 8.5° - Got this one used after all the praise on WRX. Probably the worst driver I've ever owned. Couldn't hit the thing. Luckily it was cheap and broke after about a month.

    5. TaylorMade R1 12° - Decided that I needed more loft and got fitted for this one. Disgusting graphics on top, but surprisingly good results.

    6. TaylorMade SLDR430 10.5° - The ultimate love/hate Relationship. I hit some of my longest drives with this one. Prone to the occasional duck hook. One of my favourite set-ups was this head paired with a Fujikura Pro P95 shaft at 44".

    7. Srixon Z945 9.5° - Decided that I am too cool for USDM heads and got this Japanese beauty. 400cc. Not as forgiving.

    8. Nike TW Vapor Speed - Bought this one mainly out of love for my man Tiger. Beautiful head, but a bit too spinny for me with the stock shaft.

    9. Tour Issue TaylorMade M2 2016 - One of the best drivers I've ever had. Probably should've kept this one a little longer.

    10. GBB Epic SZ - I liked the performance of it, but thought the shape was ugly. Was hoping for a 440cc head.

    11. A Grind Classic 10.5 - Decided I am too cool for USDM (again) and got this one of Yahoo Auction. 350cc and without a doubt the most beautiful modern driver head out there. Still got it, but not very forgiving.

    12. Ping G400Max - Went to the polar opposite of the A-Grind (as you do). Great performing driver, but I am in the process of selling it.

    13. GBB Epic Forged. Another JDM head (see the theme?), but I am hoping this the one. 450cc head, bonded hosel, jailbreak, all titanium construction.
Callaway GBB Epic Forged 9.5° Diamana BF60S

Does it count if you bought the club on eBay to try but then sold it after a round? How long does the club have to be in the bag to make the list? My list would be close to 50, depending on the criteria. But here is what I can remember as far as clubs that I bought that made their way to the course for any significant period of time:

Big stu would need an excel spreadsheet and hes not even the worst...

If you start with metal drivers i can do it but not on a phone.wood woods? OMG. Ill open a bottle of wine and see what i can remember tonight.

Great Thread. I limited mine to only drivers that stayed in the bag for minimum 3 months (as you indicated in OP).

    Since 1988 to present:

    1. Tony Penna persimmon (stolen with bag at San Jose Muni 1989)

    2. Henry Griffins - 9*

    3. Henry Griffins - 11*

    4. Ping G2 - 10*

    5. Mizuno - 9*

    6. PowerMax - 10*

    7. TM R11s - 10.5*

    8. TM R1 - 10.5*

Every year I try several new drivers to replace the R1 but nothing works as well. Maybe it's the V2 shaft that makes the difference? Or maybe it's the price tag?

I had a King Cobra driver when I started golfing that was handed down to me from my grandfather. First driver I ever purchased myself was a Callaway Hawkeye VFT. Then went to a Titleist 910D3. I started chasing distance and went to a Taylormade SLDR 430 and wow what a rocket when hit. My all time long drives were with that driver. I had trouble controlling it so I went back with a Titleist 913D3. Last year, I upgraded to a Rogue SZ and it doesn't quite match the SLDR in distance, but it's much more consistent.

Apparently I'm the only guy that ever owned a Yonex!

In it's day, that Yonex was long.

The list is too long, but it started with a persimmon (that sounded great with a THWACK that metal can never equal) and ended with the 910 D2 (after trying Epic, M1, various other TM, newer Titleist...still go back to that old 910).

    Now I game a G400 Max with a Ping Tour 65 shaft

I was leaving at least 90 yards on the table even if I hit it on the literal screws with the Hogan.

Edited to reflect a few I forgot. Nike Ignite, Nike SQ, Ping G5, Ping G10, and Ping Rapture.

These are drivers that actually spent time in the bag. Many, many more passed through for a round or two or a couple of range sessions, but the above were the starting line-up.

I'm almost afraid to do this. I'm probably not close to the King Hoes, but I've been thru a lot of drivers, and it's probably quite a bit worse when you consider that I've played this game less than 20 years.

I'll probably forget a number of them, but here goes nothing (may not be in order, but I'm trying):

Laminated Wilson starter set driver, never could hit it, used 3 wood

Taylormade Burner, you know the little one with the DG S300 shaft.

Yamaha EOS-little known, but great club for it's era.

Big Bertha clone, for those who werent around, when the BB came out they were in such demand you couldn't get one. I caved in the face on 3 of these before I gave up on them

    Taylor Made midsize

    Lynx Boom Boom

    Wood brothers corker

    Callaway Warbird

TM bubble-loved the fw woods, didn't like the driver

    TM TiBubble-great driver

    KZG maraging-

Nicklaus Air Max 360, loved this club, sadly it broke.

Nicklaus Air Max 380, hated this club.

    Ping Si3

    Cleveland Launcher 460-first 460cc head

    Nike Sasquatch-very underrated club.

    Ping G10

Ping G20 which I received for doing a review on this site!

    Titleist 910-best feeling modern driver.

    Callaway BB Alpha

    Callaway BB 2015 model

I am sure there were several others that didn't last long or I have forgotten about, but all of these stayed in the bag for a bit.

    Ping G400
    Callaway V Series 3w, HW
    Callaway Steelhead 4 hybrid
    Ping G 4-U
Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 54* SS
    Vokey 58 M grind
    Odyssey Pro #1 black
