Apparently I'm the only guy that ever owned a Yonex!

In it's day, that Yonex was long.

The list is too long, but it started with a persimmon (that sounded great with a THWACK that metal can never equal) and ended with the 910 D2 (after trying Epic, M1, various other TM, newer Titleist...still go back to that old 910).

You missed my post earlier.. My dad and I both had a Yonex ADX. He had the standard 11* (I still have it as a momento) , I had the “tour” 9* version.

The most satisfying “thwack” ever. A bit like a perfect strike with a wooden baseball bat.

Try the new Cobra F9. Not quite the same, but close....and VERY satisfying. I bet you’ll like it. I’m ordering one

I must have missed it! I'll check out the Cobra. Another guy I know has been raving about the Cobra, but honestly, I already forgot which model he was talking about. I'll ask him.

As for the Yonex, I had only been playing a few years and the second best golfer I played with got one...and he was just murdering it. I had never seen anyone hit a ball 265+. So I got one, but oddly mine would not go 265! The Yonex was a good club in it's day.

I have had several hundred drivers dating back to 1990

My favorites through the years are :

    Wood Brothers

Mizuno MST (smallest headed driver ever)

Ping TISI , 8.5 degree, with a Penley Tour Light Shaft ( still the longest IMO )

Titleist 975D ( This driver was long too)

    Cally Original Big Bertha

    Cally GBB

    Ping G400 Max

I have never like Taylormade woods because of the muted sound.

When I use to do Long drives years ago, I like SMT and Bang heads.
    Ping G400 Max 10.5, XTorsion 65
Epic 15 degree, Rouge MAX 75

I've been playing golf for over 50 years. I can't possibly list them all. I can categorize my top performers.

Cobra Offset drivers going all the way back to 1990 or so

    PING G series Draw drivers

    PING SF Tec drivers.

    TM Burners over various years

I currently own a Cobra Max, PING K15 SF Tec and a PING G SF Tec. I have probably owned hundreds of drivers.

Ram ProMaker Junior set. (Fraudulently named set of clubs) 1975ish.

Now a test of my memory and probably out of order of when used. Roughly from 1977 to present.

Black Tommy Armour red insert with propel shaft.

Macgregor Eye O Matic. Great stick. Sweet spot accessible.

Wilson Staff Persimmon. Not great memories. Didn't last long in bag.

Powerbilt Citation Persimmon brass back. Probably best wooden driver I ever had. Stayed in bag at least 5 years.

Langert Metalwood 8.75 deg, Boron Graphite shaft. (Odd duck in that I never owned any Pittsburgh persimmon.) This Langert driver kicked butt. Was my intro to non wood driver and loved it. Got it around 1988 or so.

    Calloway Big Bertha

    Titlest 975D

    Callaway Steelhead

Titleist 983E. Stayed in bag til 2013 so had it I think for 10ish years

Considering there was a time when I owned at least twenty variations of MacGregors (TP, M, TA) it would be a hefty book.

    My favorites through the years

    Macgregor TA 693

    Powerbilt Citation

    Founders 1st Metal

    Cobra Gravity Back

    Bang Bangomatic

    Titleist 905R

    Titleist 910 D2

    Ping G

Driver has consistently been a fluid proposition. Many, many shaft and head combo trials thru the years. Only thing I know for sure is buy the one you are demoing if you like it.

Had to really but some thought into this to try and remember! Ones in bold I still have.
    • Spalding Tour XL (Driver from my first new set)
    • Odyssey Dual Force (weird graphite face - felt good when nutted)
    • Wilson Invex (satisfying metallic "tink")
    • Ping TiSi (shall we call it "overly angular"?)
    • The Billy Club (Upgrade to 330cc clubhead!)
    • Callaway Big Bertha Titanium 454 (The modern era of 460-ish CC's. Was very hot but shaft didn't match up well)
    • Cobra X-Speed Pro S - (Probably the only one on the list that I regret getting rid of.)
    • Wilson Dd5 - (Was a missile launcher until shaft snapped. Wider diameter shaft hard to replace, wasn't the same afterwards)

    Lets's see...

-Wilson Prostaff from around 1996 when I started

    -Cleveland QuadPro Titanium

    -Titleist 905T

    -TaylorMade R7 460

    - Titleist 907D2

    -Titleist 910D2

    -Titleist 917D2

My list is relatively short, because I had about a ten year break from the early-mid 2000s until taking golf back up a few years ago. I went through the 905T, the R7 and the 907D2 in the first season and a half back. Then I tried the 910 and stayed with that until I settled on the 917D2.

They didn't. All Ping wood woods were laminated maple. May be surprised how well these old Pings still play.

This is correct- my mistake. It was laminated maple not persimmon. They were offered in black as well as "natural wood?" finish. What I loved about this club as the Driver was 12 degrees (essentially a 2-wood) and I hit it off the tee and off the deck as a teenager with no problem. It really was a great club. Obviously wouldn't be nearly as long as the stuff today at that loft and such but it was an impressive golf club.

When I was a kid I had this "Hulk Oversize" driver, then in high school picked up a r580 and had that for over a decade. Last year picked up a Triton on clearance (125msi rouge) and gamed that all this season, then recently picked up a 17'M2 and swapped my rouge shaft over into it recently for next season.

"Hulk" Oversize junior (or possibly just shortened cant remember)
