My Ping Zing 2

I mentioned this putter in another thread. No one seemed particularly interested in seeing pictures, but I wanted to share anyways because I'm kind of excited about it! :tongue:

It's a new from the factory Ping Zing 2 in Stainless. I had two heavy beryllium weights inserted in the sole and some extra tungsten powder down the shaft to bring it to my preferred 335g head weight. Also had it re-finish and paint filled white, to look more like the originals. It feels very different from my other putters, but I really love it! A big thanks to Peter Janes in the UK for helping me to modify it.

And next to my Redwood, Odyssey and Argolf.

I picked up my Zing 2 this time last year and absolutely love it. I like the idea of adding a bit of weight. May have to look into it. Enjoy!

Nice mods, looks very well done.? I am a fan of that headshape and have a few?? variants, yet my old Zing2 BeCu with lead taped sole remains my favorite.

Thanks! I’m not really sure, but probably around 300-310.

That looks awesome! I game the Zing 2 and I've been flirting with the idea of adding weight beyond some led tap and this is good info! Best of luck with it.

I have an old Zing in the basement. I used to really like it....then one day, before i knew anything about club building, I wanted to add some weight too it so i poured a cocktail of Gorilla glue and lead sinkers down the shaft. Now it feels like garbage and i heard they are difficult to reshaft because Ping used to use some kind of compression washer or something to hold it together.

Anyone have experience with re shafting one of these?

High ‘smash factor’ for a putter...transfers a lot of energy to the ball.

Old PINGs are good. Often folks don’t realize is the lighter head is what is good about them.

Some are however ridiculously low head weight with swing weight still in the high C at 35”

No mate, my Zings are steel. It's just the light. They are in A1 condition tho, and look the bees knees.

But just appearing in left of the photo are my Becu Eye 2's :)

They are a half set 4,6,8,W.

I've also got a set of steel Eye 2, and a set of steel Eye 2+.

7 different old school Ping putters as well. 2x Ansers, Pal, Zing, Blade, O Blade and A Blade.

Love the Zing 2. Putted my absolute best in high school with one, traded it when I was in college for the smaller Odyssey Rossie mallet and have been searching for the magic ever since. The last picture, of the 4 different versions of that shape, what is the last one? Thanks for the pictures and story.

I drift away from the Zing style putters too, but always come back sooner or later. They just feel very natural, don’t they?

The last one is an Argolf Lancelot. If you look closely, it actually has a small plumbers neck-ish neck. But the shaft goes over the hosel and it only has a half shaft offset, so from address it looks almost like a zing style. I like it.

You absolutely should be excited about that, modern twist on a classic.

My local PGATSS has a few manganese Zing's on the shelf, stainless Anser 2's as well.

Love the Zing style head too! I have a 5BZ that I bought new around '91 and used it until just a few years ago when I traded a G. Loomis fishing rod to my brother for a like new SC Pro Platinum Laguna 2. That started my putter ho-ing! (still have the Ping and always will)
