Got to spend some time in GG simulator with these irons. Some interesting results.

First, I don't like hitting in simulators. I don't think that I ever put good swings on the shots.

Second, I was in a fitting bay, so I did get Peak, Descent and Spin, not just yardages.

Third, I didn't take pictures of the data, so these are the highlights and my opinions on feel.

Fourth, these are NOT same shafts across the board -- they were +1/2" DG, KBS, Project LZ & Nippon Modus all in Stiff/X Stiff. I'm not all that shaft sensitive, but for sure I'm going to want to test them all when it comes time for new irons. I've only ever played DG X100 & S300 all my life.

Swing speed was in the mid to high 80's MPH and ball speed 111-113.
  • Spin was amazingly different from head to head (ok, and maybe shaft).
  • The Apex 19 Pro spun the least. It was in the low to mid 4,000's. It did go the furthest and peak height was 34 (among the highest) and descent angle was 47-48*. Loved the looks. Was a bit clicky but definitely in the mix for when I look later this spring.
  • XForged was my favorite for feel. I don't recall any of the numbers, but I think they were comparable to my current PING i20's. Also in the mix.
  • Mizuno 919T had the highest spin in the 6,000's. Felt good when hit well, but nothing all that special. Definitely loved the look, but will have to see what they feel like off grass and hitting at a driving range. Gorgeous for sure.
  • Mizuno 919F felt pretty good but again, nothing amazing. Look wasn't all that different at address from the 919T. Another in the running, but I really have to see turf/range for flight. I really enjoyed the MP MMC I tried this past summer, so I was surprised with the JPX. Certainly will give both 919T and 919F another go, but sometimes expectations do get in the way!

Wish I had had the Taylormade 790 and 760 to compare -- those are on my list, too.

Anyway, it was fun to hit a some before the 2-5" of snow we're supposed to get tomorrow. I'm definitely looking forward to some upcoming demo days where I can at least hit out into a driving range (even if off mats).

I think demo days are a great way to reduce the number of heads down (on my list right now are: 919T/F, 790/760, Apex 19 Pro, Xforged,Ping 210) and the shafts I want to try are Nippon, Project X LZ, KBS and of course DG. That would be a LOT of combinations to go through!

Moderator - why would this get moved from Equipment to Club Techs?

Any positives in the mmc, not found in the 919? Like both a lot. Assume the 919f and maybe 919t are more forgiving?

I think I might like the shorter blade length of the MMC but I was hitting those outdoors off grass. 919F seemed on par with MMC, but I can't make a fair comparison yet. 919T does look amazing and 919F doesn't look all THAT different at address. If I end up Mizuno JPX, I'm guessing I'll be in the 919F full set (I was originally thinking split set).
