Royal Precision Rifle Project X

Recommended Posts

A proven winner on the PGA Tour, this complex RIFLE features a different constant taper per inch for each shaft in the set. Longer taper rate results in more energy transfer to the ball. The ball gets up faster and flattens out for a penetrating trajecory.

I tried PX 5.5 in a set of Cally X-18 PS and agree,,,they felt dead with no "pop" from the tip.Ball flight was lower than regular rifles and a little less distance too.But I have never felt a more consistent iron shaft than the regular rifles.Have played rifle 6.5,6.0 and 5.5.The 5.5 feels a little tip soft to me and even though I played 6.5s successfully for about 7 years I have now fallen back to 6.0s.I did not like the feel or performance of TTDG nor DG lites,,,harsh feel and no "tip response" is the best I can explain.However.a short stint with the flighted rifles and they felt good,,but had a different "load" feeling on each club,,,sooooo,,,what can I say?Sometimes the original is hard to replace so until the next big thing comes along its standard rifle shafts in both sets of my Hogan Apex Edge Pros AND in my new MP 60s which should be here in less than a weel.

not sure where folks feel there is a dead feeling in them, i feel the opposite. I am play 6.5's (SS is about 115 w/ driver) in 695mb's (building a review on that iron shortly) and i feel there is a 'focused' release with these shafts. that is, when swung cleanly the energy transfer is second to none because of teh tip. I came off a set of 300's in 690's previously and i feel this shaft is much more alive. perhaps it just fits my swing,...... idk but i will be hard pressed to move away from this shaft. back to dg's is prob never going to happen.

trajectory is exactly as advertised. up high/medium but flattens out and stays there no balloning on my longer / mid irons which is sweet as i used to tend to get that flight which was depressing. hardly a 'dead' feeling shaft imho.

I love the PX....I play 5.5 Flex, (115 grams), so I add 1/4" of shaft length to cover the difference in the weight, (usually replacing DGS300's which weigh 130 grams). The PX 5.5's launch a bit higher, but with good penetration. I picked up 5 yards per club and the feel is just like standard Rifle...none of the harshness on slight mishits that you get the DG's.

im playing project x 6.0s in my 690 cb and i love it. i find i also hit it alot higher than my old tt s300s. i am also able to hit low submarine shots with a more boring and more penetrating ball flight wiht loads of spin. I love it!! and would recommend it to everyone. Its fairly expensive for iron shafts but i got a great deal on them from ebay.

I just reshafted my Mizuno MP 32's with the Project X 5.5 shafts. I have always played the TTDG S-300 but switched to the X 5.5's. I was a little concerned that the 5.5's would be a little weak but they have worked out extremely well. I love the feel and the flight of the ball and I am able to work the ball very well. This shaft is great into the wind and just has a better feel than the Dyn. golds.

one thing i noticed about the PX is that it isnt for everyone. I personally love the shaft, great feel and boreing trjectory. The dispersion is perfect, no long worried about the WTF was that even though i made a good swing. I liked them so much i put them in both my sets of clubs and will be in any new clubs i get!

been there. done that. back to dynamic gold.

i love the feel of the shaft, the problem with px is that it eliminates the feel of the clubhead.

i love the feel of my irons. if i played chunkier irons with less feel i would think about going back to px. the flight is great. and the little "pop" when you hit it feels great... but my mizunos feel better than any shaft and i love dg so it was easy to go back.

i wouldnt mind trying px in my fairway woods, hybrids or driving irons. anyone tried that?????

After a bad experience with Rifle's in a set of '05 RAC cb's. I decided to take the plunge again into the Rifle world. I've always fooled with some demo 6 irons with PX, with decent results. But with my recent set of MP 60's with DGS-300 I was hitting a high almost balooning flight. So some changes needed to be made. I considered a move to DGX-100 or PX.

So I picked up a used set of Titleist 735cm's with PX 6.0. What I found out was that I really love the shafts in all 8 clubs. Granted the heads are different. But my ball flight is a high piercing flight that holds well in the wind. Very low dispersion right to left. Of course, this is the honeymoon period. So we'll see how they hold up over time. So far so great!

I like the kick you get out of the shaft. It's almost alive. I think anyone who feels they have lost the feel of the club head, may have the wrong flex or SW. It's a different feel, but IMO a good one.

I've been a confirmed DG user and the PX is winning me over. Just hope TT doesn't butcher the shaft now that they've chromed it!

Have a question for all you PX shaft players.

I have always played X100's (S300 has a tendency to balloon in the wind and draw a bit too much) and was interested to know if anyone has made the switch and their views.

My main goal with irons is trajectory control. I'm pretty happy with the X100, but (like any fool golfer) I'm looking for the "holy grail".

If trajectory control is what you're after then look no further. I haven't had any balls balloon with me since playing the Project X shafts. I really like the trajectory these shafts give me. The wind doesn't seem to affect the ball as much as other shafts that I've played. Knock downs aren't hard to hit with these either. Try them!

OK,,in spite of my post on this topic from summer of last year I am now playing PX Flighted 6.0 in my new X-20 Tours. They are perfect,,no ballooning and they play the wind great.I had them freq'ed and they came out a perfect 5.5?Strange but true,,but they were factory installed by Cally.

They have that great Rifle "kick" and get up quick but then flatten out and go 5 yds longer than my Rifle 6.0 standards in my MP 60s,,but I am sure that is because of differences in lofts.IMHO,,if you want the flighted PX then go up a half flex,,if you want the regular PX then maybe on or down a half flex.

Could this be a quality control issue? Or maybe the hosels are too short? Any idea? Thanks.

Hi mates

1st post here. Just bought new Callys X Forged PX 6.0 with my current set being J33s w/DG X100s. I feel that the PX gets the ball airborne quicker but not much diff in distance compared to my current set. The Cally long irons are a breeze to hit and it feels so sweet! Think I'm falling in love

Just 1 question folks:

Am I right to say that the flighted 6.0 is close to a DG S300 flex and the 6.5 is like an X100? I have played both S300s and X100s and have had success with both types of shafts but trying something new. Pardon me cos I've been playing DGs all my life and I'm new to PX so still experimenting.

Thanks for enlightening me.

There are more informed individuals on here than me but I believe that the PX 5.5 = S300, PX 6.0 = S400 & the PX 6.5 = X100. That is a rough estimate, I'm sure they are not dead on the same. Here is the fitting chart for the PX's.

My friend wants to buy a set of these shafts and he needs the 7.0 flex but it seems to be very difficult to get these. 6.5 seems to be the stiffest that is available. Does anybody know where he can get then in 7.0 flex?

I played my first game today with a set of Titleist 690.CB irons, fitted with Project X 6.0's.

Very nice!.First set of irons with these shafts.

A feel that just doesn't happen with other shafts I have tried.

Even though I should be playing 5.0 or 5.5 with my swing speed I hit some amazing shots.

It was monthly medal day and I scored 76, and had bogey on the last two easy holes!.

Have plans to soft step them twice, but may just hold off until I see if the honeymoon wears off.

FYI since True Temper took over Rifle the Rifle line is not of the same quality. I have heard nothing but bad things with the new Rifle products. When True Temper took over they did not employe any of the Royal Precision people. They can not duplicate Royal Precision product. I would not purchase any of the new chrome rifle products, they are not the same. Good luck trying to find the original Project X in satin finish!
