Dulles DC Golf Show

I remember when I used to go to the DC Golf Show for deals on golf equipment. In the last couple of years, there is very little in the way of golf equipment. Golf related exhibitors in general are now outnumbered by hucksters selling all sorts of non-golf crap.

Perusing the list of this years exhibitors, I can find only 4 that sell golf clubs.

I do find, however, booths for:

Lasik Surgery

Replacement Windows

Luggage

Solar Eyewear

Jewelry & Glass Cleaner

Home Food Services

Pillows & Sheets

Medical Tens Devices

Magnetic Jewelry

Kitchen Remodeling

Foundation Repair

Jewelry with Magic Minerals

Rain Gutters

Chiropractic Services

Windows, Siding & Doors

Financial Services

Wallets

Anti Fog Lens Cleaner

AARP Money Match Game

$12 is a bit much, given the decline of golf related offerings. I get ads for the above in my daily junk mail.

I've gone to the show for years and recently each year the event has worsened. Last year I recall it was cash only (!!!) so my wife and I had to hit an atm after the show since we typically don't carry much cash. I used to go for the discount (or free) coupons for golf. Last year there was only one course giving a discount golf coupon. I may pass on it this year. Is it just the DC show or are all of the shows getting like this?

Not a fan of the show, but here are more than four venders that sell golf clubs.....You are not even close......

Can you point them out? I count only 4.....

You are correct that there are only 4 that specifically list “golf clubs” as items they carry. There are 4-5 others that list “golf equipment” who sell clubs, and a dozen others that list balls, bags, shoes, putting greens. etc.

The quality of the vendors has definitely gone downhill, and I haven’t gone in a couple years, but there’s still plenty of golf and related stuff.

I passed on the show this year for the first time in years. Can anyone that went comment on the quality and variety of vendors?

I thought it was just fine. It was a little smaller but the vendors that werent there - like RockBottomGolf - had such trash in their booths in previous years that I didnt miss them. The non golf vendors are also the smallest booth size so they dont bother me either.

I am going to conservatively say there were 15-20 vendors selling clubs. Some had a lot of clubs, some had one bag of demos - anything in between.

Not sure about the cash only comment - I've used cards every year I've been there.

There are definitely deals to be had if you look around. I saw two vendors selling M3 driver demo clubs for $219 in great shape. Brand new they could be had for $299. I bought a FootJoy pullover for $49 that our pro shop right now has for $110. Bought two FJ shirts as well. Saw guys get good deals on shoes and bags.

And its always $10 if you buy before the show which 99% of people do.

edit - the only guy I missed being there was the guy with the small booth of old golf memorabilia, old players money clips, that kind of stuff.

Going to the one in Philly on Saturday. I always looked at it as a day to get out of the house in the winter and check out some golf stuff. I usually get a pair of shoes on super discount and maybe some used balls to replenish the shag bag.. Expectations are not really that high. Just a chance to see some cool stuff and usually run in to some people that you know from golf. I always enjoy it.

It's next weekend. I got a $10 deal and you get free Golf mag subscription so why not? I went last year and there seemed a lot more than 4 vendors selling clubs. If it was just 4, each vendor had tons of clubs. It's only cash only if you want to do the games, test clubs, etc. It looked like all/most vendors accepted credit card but I do believe cash is king if you want to bargain. It's a bit of a sh*t show. If you go at the wrong time, it's a ton of people and not very comfortable. A good way to waste an hour or two if you live nearby.

At least the one in Marlbiro had a Greg Norman video swing analysis thing. It was pretty cool and probably 15 years ahead of it's time. You took a swing on video. I guess they them identified the faults in your swing and had a voice over of Greg Norman analysing your swing at diferent points. It actually semester like he was watching your swing. I guess he poo rerecorded maybe 20 or so common faults and the editors just put his comments on two or three paets of your swing to personaiize it. I still have the video like 20 years later.

Comical but yet so sad. I live in the area and would attend if there were more actual golf companies attending.
