By no means should Matt Kuchar feel pressured to pay his caddie more money.

He paid him what he thought he deserved...$5000.

I would have given the caddie 10 percent, thats like $120,000. It would have been a feel good story, El Tucan would have been set for a nice long while. My bank account wouldnt be hurt. The fans would love it. El Tucan and I would do it again next year. Great story.

Matt Kuchar doesnt care about any of that. And thats ok, he just shouldnt expect anyone to do anything for him (if he does expect it) or view him as someone he is not...a generous person with a big heart. He is just a person, with a normal heart. Totally fine , nothing wrong with that.

This caddie is a richardhead.

Yea. I’m not sure what to make of it. Sounds like someone got in his head afterward and convinced him he was shorted. Coming close to an extortion type move now. Not sure what the end goal is. No way Steiny turns lose any more cash after the bad press. Should have taken the $15k extra offered. That’s what sways my mind. They offered $15k extra to make it go away. And he turns it down , living in a cinder block house ? That’s dumb.

ElTucan sounds like a self-entitled jerk. He and some others are pretty much clueless as to the additional duties of the tour caddie. Guy does a fraction of the job for a week and wants full pay... Total BS. I'm also going to bet the El Tucan pretty much cost himself future earnings with the pros.

I'll make this offer, If Kuch or any other pro want to pay me $5k to caddie for them for the week I'll gladly take the week off and sling their bag around.

If the situation was not ridiculous before it is now.

El Toucan - "I want more money"

Kuchar - "have an extra $15,000"

El Toucan - "no thank you".

Chances of anyone wanting El Toucan to caddie for them at the event next time around = 0%

El Toucan drank the "I should have been paid more" Twitter troll Kool-aid, and now here we are... re-hashing this train wreck.

Hmmmmm.

So people convinced him after the fact he was underpaid and waits until January 24, 2019 to send an email to Steiny. (And BS he wrote that email).

Then he is offered $15,000 more.

And he says, "no thanks."

Looks like the grandstanding play on social media by Gillis and Mr. Attention Ho Plaid Shorts Man and assurances they said they were making to El Toucan that this would pay off didn't pay off. I'd say El Toucan should have no faith in interlopers having nothing to do with the transaction, and the reports of him getting only $3000 by those folks were false.

He made a deal and it was a good deal. Sour grapes is purely because some "do gooders" (really not, since their motives were just personal attention) told him he should and would get more.

LOL, and yep, pretty sure Kuch won't be asking this guy to caddie again but El Toucan "beats him to the ignore"!

If there was an unspecified bonus amount left to Kuchar's discretion and he decided on $2k out of $1.3mm then it's pretty hard not to see him as cheap. Was it standard and reasonable? Maybe but still pretty cheap and makes me think Mr. Smiles is

His self-proclaimed humbleness doesn’t ring true. I wonder who convinced him to turn down $15k? Maybe Mr. Plaid Pants guy.

I don't understand the people saying Kuchar is cheap. As I understand it, the rate was agreed upon in the begining. If it was too low for the caddie, why did he accept the gig?

Kuchar offered $3k no strings attached. If he had missed the cut and relieved El Tucan of 2 days of work and still paid him the 3k I doubt the caddie would have given 1/2 of it back.

If Kuchar has offered him 10% of his earnings on Monday morning El Tucan would have said no, there is a decent chance that amount would be $0.00. Tucan had guaranteed money at the start of the week. Kuchar added 66% to it before leaving town. In cash. Kuchar did the right thing. Tucan will have trouble with the Mexican Tax Authority (SAT) by next year’s tournament. The local mayor and policia will want their share of that $5,000. Their share is about $5,000.

I dunno, no matter how this ends, I have less respect for both the player and the caddie now. I'll speculate just like everyone else here is doing; if it was most any other player, this would have been a non-issue.

Seems weird I would have just taken the $15k and gone away. Anyway this does reflect so poorly on kuchar. I'm not sure anyone was expecting him to give 10%,but to give $5k originally, then after some pressure offer another $15k is a total joke. This is tax deductible for him the actual cost is probably half what he pays the caddie.

It has affected my opinion of kuchar which sucks, I really don't like him anymore.
