Atmos tour spec (white one) vs black tour spec in F9

Hey guys,

I’ve been doing research on some shafts for my driver and possibly upgrading all of it (have the f7+) and I can’t really find if there is a difference between the Atmos tour spec that wrx has been reviewing here that is white (with the choice of red black or blue) and the tour spec black version (blue or black) that comes standard with the oems like taylormade and cobra? Has anyone tried both?

At the PGA show I asked the same question. Was told they were different and the TS versions used slightly different materials and are stronger than the ones painted black. I've always wondered why reps are never on the same page.

NEW for 2018, we’re excited to introduce the higher launching and softer profile ATMOS. The ATMOS has a similar design profile to the Tour Spec version, but is geared towards fitting a wider spectrum of golfers. The ATMOS has a consistent, smooth feel and is the red launch profile to signify the higher flight and spin and the blue profile for mid launch and spin performance.

The black colored TS shafts in the Cobra F9 are exactly the same shaft as the widely available white TS models. If you look at the 2019 Fuji catalogue they list both the black and white options (in the TS models), as opposed to the non-TS models which are the ones referenced in the web quote above. I think the confusion is because TM offered a (non TS) black coloured ATMOS.

The standard ATMOS blue and the ATMOS Blue Tour Spec, when painted in black, look almost identical. The blue patterned paint under the grip on the standard ATMOS blue is shiny and reflective and the word ATMOS is in a different gray color. The ATMOS Blue Tour Spec that's painted black in the Cobra woods has the blue patterned paint in a flat looking finish and the word ATMOS is white. It also says "Tour Spec" obviously.

The finishes are so similar that even Cobra can't tell them apart. I ordered a 4/5 F9 tour fairway wood with the ATMOS Blue Tour Spec shaft and they sent it to me with the standard ATMOS Blue shaft. I had to call their customer service and explain that I thought they shaft wasn't correct. The rep had to go talk to the engineers and said they didn't realize there was a difference between the two. Cobra does have 2 different SKU numbers for the shafts but they appear so similar that I bet they will mix up a lot of orders.

I have noticed the Atmos TS's in Cobra's have made in Vietnam not Made in japan stickers.

Are the white Atmos TS's made in Vietnam too??

The white ATMOS TS shafts are not made in Japan. The Atmos line isn't as premium as the other lines that Fujikura offers even though Fuji is trying to present it that way. It uses 40t carbon which is about the bare minimum quality fiber that any premium shaft company will use and is also much cheaper. The standard Atmos uses 30t which is even cheaper. Not saying the performance isn't good but I'm positive the profit margins are pretty high on these shafts (not that they aren't already crazy high on all shafts).

Thanks then they most likely are the exact same shafts then with a different Paint Job.

I will say Fuji Markets the Atmos like they are top of the line, they get a ton of tour play & great reviews......

I did get the chance to try out the atmos tour spec in white and black I really couldn’t tell the difference especially the black (the blue didn’t really agree with me lol). The black was a pretty consistent shaft and not as low launching as I was expecting especially compared to some true low launch low spin monsters like kk xt tx.
