Do You Have Your Own Locker at Your Club...?

Recommended Posts

So my name finally came up on the wait list for a locker at my club after waiting almost a year and a half...and I'm not sure if I even need or want it anymore...

I find that I just wear my golf clothes to and from the course and change my shoes out of my car...for those who have a locker at the golf course, do you find it's useful...? Or a waste of money...? I'm honestly not sure what I'd even put in the locker, besides a name plate...

Just do it ! Or share if you don't want to spend the money. I love mine...holds shoes, balls, clothes, umbrella, extra clubs, orange whip, etc. I always shower after I play, so I definitely need it.

Plus...my club has a VERY strict do-not-change-into-your-golf-shoes-in-the-parking-lot rule. :fie:

Tons.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Seems like everyone keeps the emergency snivel gear in their locker.

Having a locker rules. Keep extra shoes, socks a shirt, shorts and pants in case you just want to stop by for a quick nine at lunch or after work.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

When I was a club member, I found having a locker to be very useful. Especially since changing one's shoes in the parking lot was not permitted. I kept several pair of golf shoes in there, extra pair or two of clean socks, golf balls, umbrella, couple of extra clubs, etc. I usually kept a clean shirt and shorts in there to change into after a post-round shower in the summer in case I forgot to bring fresh ones with me.

Fortunately the clubs I belonged to had way more lockers than members so there was no waiting to get one, and they were included in the dues. There were plenty of designated "guest lockers" as well.

Even though I am at the course a few times a week I think I used my locker once all of last year. I know plenty of guys who have their lockers packed with crap though so plenty of guys do get tons of use out of them. I have a backup pair of clothes in there thats probably at least two seasons old - so there's no chance it even fits me anymore lol. I think a pair of socks and a bottle of Advil. All my gear is stored at home and I pack it as needed. I would never need to have spare rain gear in my locker bc I would just pack it in my bag if I needed it.

That being said - I will never give it up. LOL I know as soon as I give it up I know my work schedule would change or I would somehow start using it.

That is what I'd be afraid of...it'd be empty and get no use, since I use my trunk as my golf "locker" which has all my gear, six pairs of shoes, balls, etc. Anyway, I ended up taking the locker; if nothing else, to have my name on something...

I miss not having one. Now my car is my locker room. I always keep a couple pair of golf shoes, an extra shirt or two, a pair of golf pants and shorts, some ankle socks, a jacket, towel, flask, some balls, umbrella and a hat.

I have mine for all the above (except a bottle...never thought of that). Plus I like going into the locker room/clubhouse before I play or practice...say hello to other members, etc. That sort of thing is what makes a club a "club" and not just a golf course or practice facility. I don't know the environment at your club, but at mine, most folks come into the locker room before they play.

"I would never need to have spare rain gear in my locker bc I would just pack it in my bag if I needed it."

I would assume that most would store their golf bags at the club also and therefore would not have to remember to pack the rain gear in the car.

I run out of all sorts of stuff if I had to remember to pack it in the car first.

Or maybe that should be another questions - How many of you store your clubs at the club?

Ours were free and plentiful. I never used one. Most of my stuff I kept in my office and would throw it in the car when I was leaving. But in hindsight, because I changed vehicles so often, I really should have taken advantage and had a locker with a few staples and backups in it.

In regards to the question of storing your clubs there, I never did because I played two other area courses on a regular basis. I think we had a golf membership of 350-400 and I would guess there might be 50 bags in the storage room.

Don't forget the added benefit of not having to bring home that new jacket, pair of shoes, hat etc purchased from the pro shop. My locker tends to limit the number of conversations i have with my wife about new golf gear.

It seems odd a club not having enough lockers. My club has mandatory locker rule so we never run out. My locker is used more as emergency prep - rain jacket, spare balls, tees, gloves, shoes. Also my wife doesn't keep a locker so when we play I put her purse in my locker (I get razzed at times). I don't use it a lot but it does come in handy.

We have a pretty large membership since there does not seem to be a cap...another problem is that our club has two separate locations, both of which I visit. So the lockers truly are useful only for backup and emergency items...

I'll be officially taking the keys tomorrow!

I store my clubs at the club. It's convenient 95% of the time. The only time it becomes a pain is if I'm playing a round (not at my club) on short notice.

We have something like a 10 year waiting list for lockers...

I'm seven years in and the locker room manager laughed at me when I asked if I was getting close to the top of the list.

Lockers are great when you need them, can keep shoes, shirts, vodka whatever in them. I store my clubs at the course also, but it helps that I have to pass the course on my way home from work so picking them up when i need to is no issue.

Back to that passing the course on my way home thing, once daylight savings hits its impossible not to stop everyday!
