Most forgiving players iron made within the past 5 years?

I am considering an older players iron model, so what would be your choice?

S55

Z-745s, 714 AP2s, MP-25s, Apex Pro '14s, i25s, TM Tour Preferred CBs.

Cannot see anything out performs 0311T.

Tried miura 001, 716 ap2, 718 ap2, apex x blades, mp18sc, jpx900, none could outperform 0311T. Center hit wise miura 001 feels better than 0311T but just marginally.

They may be great, but I am not looking to spend more than $800, which is why I am curious about older models. Thanks for the reply :).

Srixon. Either 7X5 or 5X5 depending on your definition of players irons

Try the Ping ie1 irons or possibly the newer models. These were really nice irons and forgiving as with most Ping products.

In the players category, many forgiving, affordable options that are not new releases and more or less comparable. Ping S55, i200, Srixon 745 or 765, Bridgestone J15CB or Tour B X-CB, Mizuno JPX 900 Forged or MP18-MMC, Wilson Staff C300 Forged, Cobra Forged Tours.

Ping S55s if you prefer a more compact head, or the i200s if you want a slightly larger profile. Both are excellent, very forgiving "player's" irons that have been used extensively on multiple Tours.

Ping Iblades or S55's. Callaway 2013 X-Forged.

Grab a set of j40 DPCs for $300 or so and call it a day.

J15cb. Have a couple sets. Have a set of heads available for sale too. Been my gamers for years and I’ve tried nearly everything and nothing has beat them out

Ping i20, i25, i200 etc. Mizuno Mp 54 (favourite). Titleist Ap2. Jpx 900 forged. Ping S55 ( a bit on the smaller side)

Ping I-series, the newer the better. Ping focuses on high MOI with all of their clubs and that's the number one design feature that helps when you don't hit the ball dead center of the face. Ping clubs also have a good amount of bounce so if your miss is a little fat the sole will help mitigate that. Only caveot to this formula is if you play on burned out fairways all the time, in which case the bounce may not be ideal if you are a picker type player.

If you want to view objective specification data check out Maltby's club head data. Don't focus on the MPF number, rather look at the specific numbers which define the club heads features such as size (C dimension) and MOI (off center strike forgiveness.)

If there existed some sort of score that was the product of smallness of head size and forgiveness, I suspect S55 would be in the lead.

I just bought my Second (backup) set of Adams forged XTD's with stock KBS C-taper shafts for $160 on eBay. That was a good deal but you can find them at $200 or better easy

Beautifully setup players look at address .. forgiving and longer than the true blades I've been playing all my life.

Can you draw forgiviness, distance differences between the J40DPC and your current Mizunos? What about going from SF 95S to the Recoil F4's?

Yea they are slightly expensive but i havnt changed irons for 2 yrs now, dont see myself changing in the next 2 yrs unless gen3 0311 is exceptionally better (i dont think iron heads can improve that much in 2 yrs), so $250 a yr isnt bad.

Agreeing with others here on S55's. Great clubs that most midcaper's could play well.

Good comment here though I disagree with bounce mitigating fat shots. My miss is a touch heavy and I switched from i200 to AP2 and my backups which are MP32. Fat is fat and the bounce didn't make a difference. Much happier with a smaller head now. I just don't want people thinking a club will help that much with that. I'd go AP2 or i series personally.

900T, 919T, MP18MB and 945 they are all ridiculously easy to hit compare to 2 decades ago.

Theoretically the 790s are players irons. They are very very kind to bad strikes. The 0311 line from PXG is extremely comparable. But if you wanna talk real irons, AP2, MMC MP 18, 919T are are very nice. Some would put them in a different bracket though.
