3 woods 2019

I'm in the market looking for a new 3 wood. Generally a high flight high spin player so looking for something that will help keep these down. Have always liked TM 3 woods but not liking how small the M5 is (and my current M1) and don't really like the M6. I'm looking for something easy to hit off the tee which is what I'll use it for 90 percent of the time. What 3 woods are people liking with this years models? Titleist TS3 and Ping G410 are toward the top of my list so wondering people's thoughts on these. Mizuno looks nice but I wouldn't know where to order. Boggles my mind I can't get on some of these manufacturers websites to order their clubs and even harder to order x-stiff 80g + shafts I need. Hate the epic coloring so that is out for me unfortunately since Callaway makes the best looking/shape 3 wood.

I agree, it sucks when you want ANY 80+g shaft in your fairway. I've seen more 60 gram shafts offered than 80!

Mizuno is easy to order, just hard to find and try. The F9 and F9 Tour fairways are getting some good reviews and are priced way better than the competitors.

If I end up looking for a fairway this year, I think I'd go straight to the G410 standard or LST. My main gripe with fairway woods is an overly upright lie angle and the the G410's adjustability is a must-try for me. Also if you're willing to go back one year, the Mizuno ST-180 is dirt cheap and performs really well.

Manhattan Golf USA has taken all the custom options from all the manufacturers and put them on their website. You go through and custom fit every possible aspect of the club down to layers of tape and press enter. They call you within a day to confirm each option and then place order. I have purchased Mizunos from them multiple times and the customer service is excellent. They are one of the very few who have designed their website to include every custom option available to the consumer by these manufacturers. Hard to believe more websites dont do this.

I have an F9 Tour and also a G410 LST on order. I also have a TS2. I guess that counts as a 2019 FW. The Cobra F9 Tour is great off the tee. They have some pretty solid no upcharge shaft options. I got it with the Atmos Blue TS. I agree it is hard to find 80+ gram options. The TS2 is in my bag right now because I feel it is more versatile than the F9 Tour. I have the Even Flow White 85 in that which is a no charge option from Titleist. If you are going to use it mostly from the tee, the TS3 might be a better option. I absolutely fell in love when I hit the G410 LST. It is compact, can be set 3 degrees flat (so anti-left), and the sound/feel are amazing. I can't wait for that to come in. Ping no charge options are a little slim though. I am guessing my Even Flow White 85 will end up in the G410. I did not like the TM options this year. TEE might be a good option too. They updated the CBX for this year and last years was pretty amazing off the tee. I had one paired with a Hzrdus black and it was a rocket off the tee. Not enough spin for me coming in to greens so I moved on but it is definitely a top performer.

Thoughts on TS2 vs TS3 from the tee? Definitely trying to keep the ball down and spin to a minimum.

I think either are great choices from the tee.....I went with TS2 just because it has the desired ball flight (mid trajectory) when changing the standard 15* hosel to 14.25* and upright. They both spun the same for me around 3300. So i opted for the more forgiving head in the TS2. I had the TS3 for a bit but the mishits seemed to punish me a little bit more and as a mid 'capper I need all the help I can get

TS3 has a slightly deeper face, so it might perform a bit better for some off the tee. TS2, for many, will perform a bit better from the turf. I think a testament to that is that many of the tour pros who are gaming TS3 drivers are gaming TS2 fairway woods.

I am on the search for a new 3 wood.

Have had the M1, M2 tour, G400, in the last little bit.

Currently have a M2 tour with green mamba 70tx. Need to hit it outside to get a better idea on flight.

Have a fitting booked for a 410 lst

Have a line on a m3 hl with PO80tx which I have hit a few times and hit well.

See how this fitting turns out

Like and flat lie angle on the g410. That could sway me that way

I just completed my 3-wood search this week. I did some informal testing (tried to keep all as close as I could using HZRDUS Smoke 70) and found that ball speed was all about the same for me for:

Titleist TS2

Cobra F9

Callaway Rogue

Taylor Made M4

Ping and Cobra F9 Tour were down in ball speed for me.

The Titleist felt best to me and had the tightest dispersion. This led me to do a full Titleist fitting, fully expecting to end up with a TS2.

During the fitting, it turned out that going to a slightly shorter Smoke shaft in the TS3 bumped up to a another couple of mph and was very consistent off turf or short tee.

I realize this was not super comprehensive but the shaft selection at the store was a joke for the M5/M6 so I didn't test those, and to be honest I have sort of taken a liking to the simpler design for my fairway woods so I don't know that I would have changed.

Hope this helps!

I'm most curious about the Mizuno 190 fairway. It is the best looking fairway wood out there.

Yeah looks good for sure but I'd never be able to see or test it without buying it since no one carries that around me.

TXG released an initial review of the 410LST today. Thing is a monsterrrrrr wow did not expect that.

I pretty much only use 3w off the tee so I'm looking for lower spin. Going to be flash sz vs 410lst vs f9 tour this year.

Saw that too but also noticed his strike pattern. G400 was out of the bottom of the head and he hit G410 let dead center. I’m sure contact effected distance and ball speed a bunch.

I've been able to see it, but they didn't have any demos. It looks even better in person and sets up really nice. But for most, they would have to buy it blind.

I'd go with a Custom Epic Flash, though since the sole of the club I can't see at address, the color scheme doesn't bother me.

The evenflow white 85 and the old school but new edition pro force v2 are really the only 80g options with tm and ping. I don’t need a long 3 wood so the normal 410 is under consideration.

M6? Just get it with a decent no upcharge shaft, pull it and sell it, and use that to fund a portion of the shaft you want.

I'm thinking this is for me regarding the shaft options - I should clarify!

My goal was to test as many fairways as I could in close to what I define as my shaft profile (comfort level) and then pick a winner to do a full fit on (during a fitting day when the brand reps come to golf town). The fitting cart for the new Taylor Made stuff didn't have a single stiff shaft (all regular tensei red or whatever it is and even lighter regular), and when I asked if there was anything in X or even S to try, and the salesman suggested trying a driver shaft in S, I ran as fast as I could LOL.

The shaft offerings through Taylor Made are very good and I think given a full fitting, I could have found something that worked great for me... but that being said, my overall initial impressions with the TS3 were so positive that it felt ready to game, so I went for it.

Just went and did a fitting for a three Wood and ended up in a TS3 w/ the stock 75g 6.5 evenflow white. Can't believe I ended up with a stock club but this thing had the highest ball speed and was the longest/best dispersion of any of the other big boy names.

The ST190 is replacing my Epic SZ (weight forward) this year. I'm not sure what constitutes high spin/launch since actual and desired numbers weren't provided, but I look for 11-12* with 2900-3000 spin at 155-158 ballspeed. I can manipulate those conditions off a tee. As a lefty, I don't get to choose between the TS and regular version, but both heads behave similarly with adjustability being the point of difference. That's my only discouragement since I think having a fairway that can go from 13-17* is very functional if you play different courses and conditions. If you like the simplicity of the traditional glued head (which I think was a tour request), then you've got that option.

It's the best sounding and looking head available with some improvement over the previous ST180. The Wave Sole works really well on the low strikes, had it on the JPX-850 and never left me wanting off the deck. I can't see me hot melting this head as it's very neutral and solid. It'll go great alongside the driver in my bag
