You guys like Phil Collins? Been a big Genesis fan, ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand, any of their work, too artsy, too intellectual .. It was on Duke, where, uh, Phil Collins presence became more apparent .. I think "Invisible Touch" is the group's undisputed masterpiece .. It's an epic meditation on intangibility .. at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the proceeding three albums .. listen the to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins, and Rutherford, you can practically hear every nuance of every instrument .. in terms of lyrical craftsmanship and sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism .. take the lyrics to 'Land of Confusion", in this song Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority .. "In Too Deep", is the most moving pop song of the 1980s about monogamy and commitment .. the song is extremely uplifting, the lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock .. Phil Collins solo career, seems to be more commercial, and therefore more satisfying in a narrower way, especially songs like, "In The Air Tonight" and, uh, "Against All Odds" .. but I also think, Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and i stress the word, artist .. this is "Susudeo", a great, great song, a personal favorite

    Patrick Bateman, is that you?

Lol I've been waiting months now for someone to recognize that!!!

I remember that movie and I remember your post from some time back. But I did not put it together at the time. I just thought it was one weird arsed post and left it at that. lol..

I’ve read through most of this thread, lots of great posts and memories here. But seriously, how could one of the most incredible guitarist/songwriters of all time not be mentioned? Of course I’m speaking of Mark Knopfler, the genius behind Dire Straits. I haven’t been to a concert in years, but very excited to see him this fall at the Greek Theater in Berkeley.

Been listening to The Kinks a lot recently for some reason. Some that fit in this thread... don't think I've ever seen the music video for Come Dancing before:

Had Self Control stuck in my head a few weeks ago when Gloria was getting tons of airplay in conjunction with the Blues/Stanley Cup Playoffs. Thanks for reminding me.

This was on the record playing jukebox at my local watering hole when I turned 21. I never went there for a soda as good as I can remember.

    This as well.

Right after my HS graduation, I saw Santana on the Zebop! tour in 1981 just before going off to ITT.
"Winning" got a LOT of airtime that summer.

I really hated this but few songs brings back such sweet memories. It was is the category that we had a word for that loosely can be translated into English as a ”squeezer”.
