Scotty face insert is not flush, and having trouble removing it.

I've noticed that somehow over time, the face insert on my 2016 Newport 2 has shifted slightly. The heel-end of the insert is slightly raised now, so it is no longer flush with the rest of the face. If you look closely at the picture, you can see there is more space between the main club and the insert at the heel-end then there is at the toe-end. Obviously this means that the face is no longer perfectly square, so it messes with my head and I need to fix it!

I removed the 4 screws on the back and have tried a few methods to loosen up the double-sided tape underneath the insert, but have had no luck so far. I still can't get the face off.

I have applied heat with a hair dryer, moved up to a heat gun, and tried to pour some goo-gone down the screw holes in hopes of loosening the tape. Nothing is working for me so far and I'm nervous to use a straight-edge tool to try and pry it out, since I don't want to damage the club at all.

Anyone have any tried-and-true ways of removing the inserts from newer Scottys? Any help would be awesome, thanks!

If the heat gun didn't work, I'd try the hot (really hot) water like AZLefty recommended. Then use some kind of plastic pry tool (like you would use to take apart the interior/dash of a car - can be found on amazon for <$10) or thick card or something to try and pry it off. The only thing left should be the 3M tape, but it sounds pretty strong ha.

I would say heat and then try a skinny metal tool to poke it out from behind in the holes where the screws were.

I'd put it back together asap, sell it, then buy a pre-insert Select.

Where did you buy the putter? I'm no expert, and have no direct experience with that model. But when I look at the font and the weights, they just don't look like typical SC. It may not be fake, but it looks weird. Compare the font and weights. Also, do you have a weight removal tool? I would remove those weights before I put it in hot water.

Can you share some other pictures, like the cavity, face, etc?

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. After a long bath in boiling water and a number of attempts at pushing from the back screw holes and light prying from the bottom, I have still had no luck. That insert is on there much tighter than I expected.

I attached a few more pictures. Bought this club off Kijiji for a bargain end of last season, so if it's fake, I could care less. It's not the gamer (SS mid-slant that I'll never part with). This guy is just the putter that sits in my office for practicing. Nevertheless, I still want to make the face square if possible.

- The 20g weights that I have in it are aftermarket Amazon weights, so don't be thrown off by them. I know they are fake

- The Titleist stamp on the front and the alignment line were both black originally, but I stripped them off last night so that I can fill them with white (I'm bored in the winter, needed something to do).

- Original shaft band was on the back of the shaft (like it should be), but previous owner scratched it up and it was peeling so I took it off.

Can anyone tell is this guy is a knock-off? Or do I just need to give it more elbow grease to free the insert? (ignore the cat hair that made it's way into the groove)

That putter looks fake to me.

The neck looks terrible. Doesn’t have the beveled edges that it’s supposed to have. Has it been worked on?

Those fonts are different. The C in Cameron looks off. The bottom of the hosel cup and neck are not machined.

I don't care if its fake or not, but it may be an indicator of how easy or difficult it will be to get that insert off. If fake it might be held in by strong glue or possibly not come off at all. I wouldn't know. But it could be a factor in getting that insert off.

If it’s fake it might not be an insert at all.

that's a counterfeit.

That thing is faker than a three dollar bill. No paint fill on “Titleist” on the face. The corners of the neck aren’t beveled. So logic would tell me that face is GLUED on with super glue or epoxy. 3M two sided tape, for as strong as it is, really wilts under heats above 150F. So yup, that’s a “fugazi”

Shame, it's 2019 and fake putters are still an issue. If the deal is too good to be true...it normally is.
