Toulon/Odyssey - Does it change your perception of the Toulon Brand?

I dont know how you guys feel about the subject but now that I see Toulon's new line of putters with Odyssey stamped all over them I don't feel the same way about them as I did before they joined forces.

I have owned a few Toulon putters and thought they were fantastic. I also liked the idea of playing a putter that you didnt see everyday that was more of a boutique brand.

Now, I know that Odyssey makes a good putter and picking up Toulon gives them a premium option to offer the consumer. I'm sure the new line of putters will be great but I feel like the brand has lost its "cool factor" if you will.

Thoughts?

I love the full face milling. Hate the odyssey branding everywhere. I’m sure they’re still fantastic putters but really hoped they follow the Titleist / SC route by keeping the Toulon name on the putters.

I didn't think I would mind, but I do. I wish they kept the same stamping with Odyssey only on the bottom. It doesn't feel right to be paying $450 and up (if you go through the Garage) for an Odyssey putter.

Outside of golf forums, I doubt a majority of your average golfers have ever even heard of Toulon.

I bet they were afraid of people glancing at a Toulon and saying "what's a Toulon? $400? Never heard of it! Nope."

Odyssey is obviously a much more recognizable brand name that will give some level of instant credibility to the Toulon name. Assuming the Toulon name can build a reputable reputation over time, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Odyssey branding take a step back and let the Toulon name speak for itself.

I do not think the Odyssey name is a good brand to market their premium line. Average golfer probably doesn’t view them the same as say Scotty or Bettinardi etc. I like the full face mill and I think the branding looks cleaner than before. Always thought the Toulon logo and fonts were alittle cheesy

Ive sold some Odysseys for 800 to 1400...i think their pricing for a premium putter is fine.

No one is walking into their LGS and paying $800-1400 for an OTR Odyssey. So your example is a poor one.

It does look like Odyssey is taking control of the reigns now. Not only with the branding at every angle and especially the back cavity but the shapes are direct translation of current odyssey putters. Las Vegas is the #7. Palm beach the 330.

My hope with odyssey rebranded Toulon is that more golf shops will start carrying it thus more golfers will start playing them just because of the brand recognition. The are really great putters with great feel and weight. For those who prefer the Toulon branding there is plenty of second hand stock at callawypreowned and other sources. No shortage just yet.

I’m a massive Toulon fan, have owned probably ten different models including the two that I own currently, but I agree with the majority here. I understand why they did it but I don’t care for it.

I think for the average weekend golfer an Odyssey is a premium putter compared to so many other brands, with Scotty Cameron being the holy grail. Boutique putters are just that, outside of this forum the “average” golfer has no idea what they are. I would bet the majority don’t even know what a Circle T Cameron is. Perhaps a large Odyssey logo will attract those rolling a few in the store?

I wonder if this type of discussion was going on with Scotty Cameron fans around 1995-96 when he joined forces with Titleist.

No because there has only been one Titleist stamp on every Cameron, just as there was only one Odyssey stamp on the first Toulons.

That's not true. Through the 90s he had models with Titleist on both the sole and in the cavity/back, then moved sole and hosel. I'm pretty sure the early grips were Titleist branded too. It seems like the Titleist branding was reduced in the 2000s when Cameron became super well known to the golfing public.

The Cameron website has a very detailed archive of retail offerings available: https://www.scottycameron.com/putter-archive/

I met Sean Toulon at the PGA Show a few years ago when he was about to start the putter line of Toulon putters. Nice guy, but it was obvious he was looking to get a company to buy him out.

I have the Toulon Long Island. I like the look and feel. It's a flow neck that says it's 2/3 offset (which I think is too much for me), but it looks more full shaft offset to me. But, it's a darn good putter that is well crafted.

I'm not a fan of Odyssey. Not only their line of putters, but the quality control is lacking. That's what changes my perception of the Toulon brand...Odyssey's shoddy quality control.
