I think components get overlooked but they certainly have their place in the "cult classic" That driver was really good!

To get into components I would have to say that all the Snake Eyes 600 series irons were also some of the best irons I ever used PERIOD. 5 step forged and designed by Jeff Sheets.

This thread does make me think about my old high school bag

Driver - Titleist 975D 8.5* with a red Prolite 35 (changed senior year to 975J with Prolite 35)

Fairway Woods - Cleveland Quadpro 3 wood with stock Cleveland Stiff graphite and Titleist 975 7 wood with True Temper R300

Irons - Cleveland TA4 with R300 Sensicore (changed senior year to Titleist 762 with S300)

Wedges - Cleveland TA 588 RTG in 56* and 60*

Putter - Gun Blue Scotty Cameron Studio Design 1.5. (I've still got this)

College saw a change to the following

Driver - Titleist 983K 8.5* with Aldila NV 65 (later replaced with a Taylormade r5 TP with a Diamana Blue Board 83)

    Fairway Wood - Titleist 980F with S300

Hybrid - Ping Rapture with Aldila VS Proto Hybrid

    Irons - Titleist 690CB with S300

Wedges -Taylormade RAC TP Fe03 raw in 52 and 60

Putter - Scotty Cameron Studio Stainless Newport 2

I stuck with the college setup until I graduated in 2007 and changed driver to a Superquad TP with a Rombax 7W07, dumped the Rapture Hybrid in favor of a short lived Steelhead III 5 wood with a horrible uniflex steel shaft, later replaced with an Adams Pro A12 hybrid with a Matrix Altus and moved the irons from 690CB (still have them) to the original AP2 with PX 5.5. From there, I've just been hoing away, but don't change as often as others here.

Those TA4 irons were superb, the 762 were a little bit of a letdown, and I still have the old 980F which I think was unfairly overlooked by many, but then again that was the day of the Steelhead Plus and V-Steel, so there's that.

Sonartec 3.5 fairways. I have had the 3 & 5 for years, and still find them relevant. In fact, I have decided to put the 5 back in the bag this spring. So easy to hit both off the tee & fairway to this day. Very workable, and honestly the distance I am getting is still on par w/most every new model I have tried.

Not only are the clubs in this post considered 'Cult Clubs', but these particular selections have enabled me re-think and re-configure my iron set so that it is 'much more versatile', while at the same time allowing me to add several more clubs to my bag without exceeding the 14-club legal limit.

LESSON LEARNED: AN 'UNCONVENTIONAL BAG SETUP' CAN ADD VERSATILITY AND PERHAPS ENABLE YOU TO SCORE BETTER! DON'T BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT WITH YOUR OWN SETUP.

My TM SLDR irons (5-8) when combined with (2) UDI's - the 16* (#1) and the 20* (#3) enabled me to achieve consistent (4*) loft gaps throughout my iron set! Love the performance and versatility of that!

Furthermore, because I now have only (6) irons total with this combo set, there is more room in the bag for other clubs, (additional fairways, hybrids, or wedges), beyond those that I would normally carry if I still playing a more conventional iron set comprised of 8-irons like I used to.

All the above SLDR irons and UDI's have KBS C-Taper Lite 110 shafts)

This is the perfect combo iron set up for me!... image/yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

    SLDR Iron Lofts

Note that I only play only the 5-8 SLDR irons from the SLDR chart above - (the 24*, 28* 32* and 36*)

    UDI's - The Ultimate Driving Irons - (I play the 16* and 20*)

NOTE: Because my 2011 Cleveland Niblick PW (shown below) as just 42* of loft, it easily does 'double duty' as my 9-Iron too! (That also helps save bag space for something else).

At 42*, this 'super versatile' Niblick PW is also a great 9-iron!
Yep Bob Cat my friend you learned the versatility lesson well
I think I have said this before I like a club because I like it period do not care what brand it is , when it was made or the market politics of the manufacturer or who plays it on tour. Also playing fewer clubs makes decisions easier. Lots of folks ask me why I only carry 2 wedges? That is all I need I have been playing golf long enough to know how to manipulate a club.
